MRS. SHIRLEY J. GILLMORE
Shirley Jean Gillmore, of Hancock, was born on January 1, 1927, at Fort Scott, Kansas, a daughter of Bill and Eulah (Lynch) Quiring, and departed this life at 9:33 p.m., on Monday, March 26, 2012, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Shirley had been in failing health and had attained the age of 85 years, 2 months and 25 days.
Shirley Jean Prouty Quiring was united in marriage on September 22, 1946, at Columbus, Kansas, to Theodore Monroe "Ted" Gillmore, and to this union, three children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, on March 29, 2002; one great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Autumn Copeland on January 29, 2007; her parents; and one half-brother, Bob Prouty.
Shirley was a member of the Hancock Christian Church and was baptized in 1959. She had worked in the Pulaski County Courthouse for the Missouri Court System as a clerk of the 25th Judicial Circuit, retiring in 1989. Shirley was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Activities Shirley especially enjoyed were horses, painting and being with her family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Shirley include: one son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Gillmore, Jamestown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Copeland and Teresa and Larry Kelley, all of Hancock; one brother and his wife, Larry and Beverly Quiring, Salem, Oregon; one half-brother and his wife, Bill and Grace Prouty, Rolla; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Shirley will indeed be sadly missed by her dear family and all who knew and loved her.
The visitation for Shirley was held in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes from 5:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012, and was followed by a graveside service at 7:00 p.m. in the Dixon Cemetery with Minister Gary Day, Hancock Christian Church, officiating. Pallbearers for Shirley were Zachary Gillmore, Neil Creamer, Lucas Coonce, Brad Kelley, Steven Brown and Charles W. Pitts. Honorary pallbearers were The Honorable Judge Tracy Storie, The Honorable Judge Greg Warren and Tom Kelley.
