Alice Marie James, age 72, of Vienna, was born July 23, 1951, in Vienna, a daughter of Theodore Antone "Ted" and Matilda Mary "Tillie"(Libbert) Schwartze, and passed from this life on Monday, June 3, 2024, in Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City, surrounded by her loving family.
She was united in marriage November 6, 1971, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle, to Wayne Eugene James, and to this union two children were born.
Alice was a devoted member of the Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, where she served on the parish council, sang in the church choir, helped with funeral meals, and helped with the country store at the parish spring and fall suppers. She was also a past member of the Maries County Fair Board. Alice and Wayne spent time together traveling, camping, taking road trips and visiting many of the national parks. She also enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, trail rides on ATVs, going shopping and antiquing, and going out to eat and trying new restaurants. She especially loved the Christmas season and spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
During her working life, Alice was a computer programmer for the Department of Social Services starting in 1969 and retired after thirty plus years, but continued to work part time in retirement.
Those left to mourn the passing of Alice include: her loving husband of over 52 years, Wayne of the home near Vienna; her son, Chris James and wife, Kristan of Vienna; her daughter, Cindy Rehmeier and husband, Andy of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Makayla Howard and husband, Jacob, Austin James and wife, Kaylee, and Alexa Rehmeier; one great-grandchild, Skylar Howard, and one more expected December of 2024; her siblings, Eileen Luebbert (Fred), Donovan Schwartze (Shanda), Betty Yanskey (Donald), Norma Malone (Jim), Darryl Schwartze (Paula), Gerald Schwartze (Darla); as well as many other relatives and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by: her father, Ted on February 8, 2010; her mother, Tillie on December 24, 2016; one sister, Louise Stratman on May 2, 2007; and one brother-in-law, Richard Stratman on January 6, 2020.
Visitation for Mrs. Alice James will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2024, with a Prayer and Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m., and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2024, all at Visitation Catholic Church, 105 North Main Street, Vienna, MO 65582, with her Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Flatley, Rev. Basil Tigga, and Deacon Michael Brooks as concelebrants, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
Interment for Mrs. Alice James will be in James Community Cemetery, Vienna. Pallbearers for Alice will be Andy Schwartze, Timmy Schwartze, Derek Schwartze, Jacob Howard, Austin James, and Jacob Schwartze. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Schwartze, Brian Schwartze, Donovan Schwartze, Darryl Schwartze, Gerald Schwartze, Scott Williams, Brandon Yanskey, Cary Miller, and Michael Bates.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Alice James are suggested by the family for Visitation Catholic Church Masses and the James Community Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, with envelopes available at the church or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, MO 65582.
