Allen Noah "Stinker" Finn, of Owensville, formerly of Jennings and Vienna, was born on March 7, 1936, at Vienna, a son of Noah Charles and Ruby Blanche (Bray) Finn, and departed this life at 8:15 p.m., on Thursday, September 12, 2013, in the Frene Valley Healthcare Center, Owensville, where he had been a resident since 1994. He became disabled and suffered long-term impairment due to a stroke and had attained the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 5 days.
Allen was united in marriage on April 25, 1959, at St. Louis, to the former Miss Patricia Ann Collins, and to this union, four children were born. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Rose Finn on January 14, 1988; one granddaughter, Rachel Bradley on January 14, 1988; one grandson, Russell Allen Gronek on September 26, 2009; his father on February 20, 1960; his mother on May 10, 1996; two brothers, Charles Ellis Finn on January 10, 1991, and Richard Paul Finn on January 3, 2006; one nephew, Mark John James on March 20, 2006; and his step-father, Frank Pointer on September 13, 1984.
On February 11, 1959, at Vienna, Allen was inducted into active federal service in the Army of the United States and served until January 31, 1961, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Dix, New Jersey. During his military duty, he had taken his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, had taken advanced training as a construction machine operator with his specialty being Bridge Specialist, and had been stationed in Germany during the years 1959-1961. Prior to his discharge, Allen had attained the rank of Private First Class. A man of excellent character, his "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country.
During his working life, Allen had been employed as a truck driver and had driven for the Roadway Express Company for fifteen years, the F & J Express Company, and the Holmes Freight Company, all in St. Louis, prior to his retirement in 1988.
Allen lived his life robustly and grieved in like manner. He had volunteered with girls scout groups in Jennings, was a member of the Men's Club of the St. Louise DeMarillac Church in Jennings, and had coached girls little league for ten years. Allen really enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, boating, camping, and weight lifting. He had won a few awards with weights while in the army and continued these hobbies until his health failed. Boating included floating the Gasconade River on big inner tubes and floatables with family and friends followed with a fish fry, he being the "chief" of course, was his joy. Allen's true love was his family.
