Arlene Joyce Houston, of Dixon, was born on July 20, 1934, at Stowe, Vermont, a daughter of Erton and Orilla (Spalding) Godfrey, and departed this life at 10:48 p.m., on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at her residence in Dixon.

She was united in marriage on October 5, 1949, to Ernest Barnes Houston, and to this union nine children were born.

Arlene attended Roubidoux Springs, Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall, Waynesville.  She was a devoted housewife and homemaker for all her working life and was always diligent in providing for the needs of her family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Houston include: five children, Nancy Hudgens, Hardwick, Vermont; Ernest Houston, Jr. and wife, Pam, and Debra Parkhurst, all of Dixon; William "Bill" Houston and wife, Emily, Cameron, North Carolina; and Michael Houston and wife, Dawn, Lake Elmore, Vermont; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, in 1990; four children, Geraldine Houston, Barbara Houston, James "Jim" Houston, and Robert Houston; her father, Erton, in 1969; her mother, Orilla, in 1969; one infant brother; and two sisters, an infant and Hilda Grimes.

Arlene's family and friends will gather at a later occasion to remember her life at a service of remembrance.
