Artty Wayne Spencer, of Vienna, was born on June 5, 1952, at Doniphan, in Ripley County, Missouri, a son of Wallace Delmar and Mary Louise (Yates) Spencer, and departed this life on Monday, July 22, 2019, after suffering an apparent heart attack at his residence. He had attained the age of 67 years, 1 month, and 17 days.
Artty was united in marriage on February 22, 2008, at Vienna, to the former Mary Kay (Crider) Thompson.
Early in life, he had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior, and had followed his Lord in baptism, while attending the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Doolittle. At the time of his passing, Artty and his wife were attending the Celebration Church in Rolla. He was a faithful member of the Argyle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8045 in Argyle, and the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial American Legion Post 317 in Freeburg.
On July 31, 1972, at Orlando, Florida, Artty entered into active federal service in the Navy of the United States and served until April 30, 1993, when he was honorably discharged at Orlando, Florida, at the rank of TM1, E6. During his naval career, Artty was trained as an ASROC Missile Assemblyman and as an advance Undersea MK46 Maintenance Weaponsman. He was awarded and entitled to wear the Fourth Good Conduct Award for the period ending on July 30, 1991; the Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (2 nd Award); the National Defense Service Medal (2 nd Award); the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (4 th Award); the LOC; the Navy Expeditionary Medal; the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal; the .45 Cal (Sharpshooter) Badge; the M-14 Rifle (Expert) Badge; the Vietnam Service Medal; and the Republic of Vietnam Medal. A man of excellent character, Artty's "Honorable Discharge", for twenty plus years of naval service prior to his retirement, is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country.
Those left to mourn the passing of Artty include: His wife, Mary Kay Spencer, of the home in Vienna; two daughters, Concetta "Connie" Spencer (Hector Corzo) of Orlando, Florida, and Jessica Wenzel (Ronny Wenzel) of Winter Springs, Florida; two granddaughters, Sofia Corzo and Sabrina Corzo; two step-children, Shannon Thompson (Dana Thompson) and Lana Germann (Dan Germann), all of Vienna; six step-grandchildren; two brothers, Leslie Spencer (Shirley Spencer) of Rolla, and Allen "Chuck" Spencer of Eureka; special aunt, Wilda Spencer, of Rolla; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant siblings; and a special uncle, William "Bill" Spencer.
