Obituary

August "Gus" Lawrence Lock of Lewisville, Texas, was received into Heaven on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the age of eighty-nine. Gus was born on October 24, 1933, in Koeltztown, Missouri.  He was the cherished son of Leo and Anthone (Hoffman) Lock, devoted father of Cheryl (Jonathan) Marks and Suzanne (Terry) Foerster, loving grandfather of Michelle (Matthew) Schwolert, Rebecca (Anthony) Hermes, and Jennifer Foerster, doting great-grandfather of Nolan, Jacob and Henry "Hank" Schwolert, dear brother of Ralph (Janie) Lock and loving companion of Mary Garcia. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Gus, a United States Marine who served during the Korean War, was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Lucille Lock; his parents, four sisters Lilian Welshmeyer, Roberta Boehmer, Pauline Gardner and Leona Gradel; and grandson Nathan Marks.

Gus did not know a stranger; his positive energy and exuberance for life were infectious.   He was strong and hardworking, from chopping wood when he was young, to painting bridges as a provider, to caring for his family and grandchildren in his golden years.  Despite several limiting health conditions, he placed an inspiring emphasis on simply being alive, being able to love and make others happy, and spreading pure joy, many times with his big smile and infamous hugs.  He lived by several humble rules 'The phrase 'thank you' doesn't cost a penny,' 'Just be a good person to everybody,' and 'Always appreciate the things you have in life,' among many others. He was known well for his loyalty, gratitude, generosity, kindness, sense of humor and tenacious spirit.

In addition to spending time with his family, Gus enjoyed playing cards, watching old Westerns, collecting coins, fishing, hunting, cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs, taking trips to the casino, eating sweet treats, and spoiling his grandchildren 'rotten.' August, Gus, Gussie, Dad, Daddy, and Grandpa will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to receive his rich love, happy spirit and many hugs.
