August "Gus" Joseph Ponstingl of Vienna, was born on April 3, 1941, in St. Louis, a son of August and Murrell (Sontag) Ponstingl and departed this life at 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at his residence in rural Vienna. Gus had attained the age of 74 years, 11 months and 19 days.

Gus was united in marriage on February 4, 1967, in Bellefontain to Diana Catherine Forck and to this union four children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gus was a member of the Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, and the Visitation Knights of Columbus Council No. 13178, Vienna. He loved tinkering with his tractor, traveling, fishing, and land and wildlife management. Gus had worked as an engineer for Ameren UE prior to his retirement.

Those left to mourn the passing of Gus include: his wife, Diana Ponstingl of the home near Vienna; two sons, August Ponstingl, Jr. and wife, Ythma, Lincoln, Nebraska; Matthew Ponstingl and wife, Christa, Eureka; two daughters, Gina Marie Young and husband, Bill, Piedmont; and Rosemarie Hotze and husband, Paul, Ste. Genevieve; eight grandchildren, Travis Allen, Anmarie, Thomas, Bianca, Santiago, Amelia, Valentina, Marianna, and one expected soon; one sister, Charlene Ward and husband, Ted, Labadie; and a host of other relatives and friends.
