Augusta "Gussie" Hachtel Emmons, of Dixon, was born on November 18, 1947, at Santa Barbara, California, the daughter of Sherman Austin Dallas and Fannie Belle (Rogers) Hachtel, and departed this life at 7:20 a.m., on Tuesday morning, April 4, 2017, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, where she was taken by ambulance after suffering an apparent heart attack at her residence in Dixon. Gussie had attained the age of 69 years, 4 months, and 16 days.
Gussie was a 1965 graduate of the Dixon R-1 High School, and through the years, she especially enjoyed the activities of being with friends, sewing, texting, and just having a good time. During her working life, Gussie began her career at the Brown Shoe Company, Dixon, in the Fancy Stitch Department, and after the closing of the Dixon location, she began her college courses to obtain a nursing degree. After being certified as a Registered Nurse, Gussie began her nursing career at what was known then as the Phelps County Hospital and later the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, and after leaving there, was employed by numerous other health care facilities prior to her retirement due to failing health.
Those left to mourn the passing of Gussie include: Her son, Tony Emmons, and wife, Glenda, of Dixon; three grandsons, John Emmons, Dakota Emmons, and Cole Emmons, all of Dixon; her special friend, Danny Sims, of Jefferson City; a step-son, Corwin Jones, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her brother, Sherman M. "Cowboy" Hachtel, of Phillipsburg, Montana; one sister, Frances Truax, of Blanchard, Oklahoma; nephews; nieces; other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sherman, on April 14, 1998; her mother, Belle, on January 24, 1985; one sister, Sherma Sue Hachtel; and one sister-in-law, Sandy Hachtel.
