Bernadine Katherine Howser, of Dixon, was born on April 28, 1926, at Meta, in Osage County, a daughter of Thomas Edward and Anna Frances (Hake) Clark, and departed this life at 6:56 p.m., on Friday, June 2, 2017, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, from Pneumonia. She had attained the age of 91 years, 1 month, and 4 days.
Bernadine was united in marriage on January 8, 1947, at St. Louis, to Alston Edward Howser, and to this union, three children were born.
At the time of her birth, she was baptized in the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Meta, where her parents were parishioners at that time, and during her adult life, Bernadine was a member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church, Dixon. She had been employed at the Brown Shoe Company, Dixon, for thirty-five years, prior to her retirement as well as being a devoted housewife, homemaker, and a person always diligent in providing for the needs of her family. Bernadine was a person greatly blessed with talented hands enabling her to craft handmade quilts, crochet Afghans and doilies, and to do embroidery work.
Those left to mourn the passing of Bernadine include: Her surviving son, Ray Howser (Georgette), of Dixon; her daughter, Linda Robbins, of Dixon; four grandchildren, Matthew Howser (Sherri) of Dixon, Frankie Howser of St. Louis, Bradly Robbins (Jenni) of Iberia, and Maudie Robbins of Dixon; her great-grandson, Tanner Wade Robbins; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Clark and Katie Howser both of Dixon, and Lois Howser of St. Louis; nephews; nieces; many other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alston, on December 5, 1970; one son, Charles Thomas Howser, on September 1, 1973; her son-in-law, Gerhard Hans Robbins, on April 24, 2014; her father, Ed, on January 21, 1967; her mother, Anna, on October 2, 1977; eight brothers, Vernie Clark, Otto Clark, Ralph Clark, Edward Clark, Jr., Alfred Clark, Eckles Clark, Ray Clark, and infant, Virgil Clark; and three sisters, Eleanor Vaughn, Elizabeth Hake, and Pearl Clark.
Visitation for Mrs. Bernadine Howser will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 East Third Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in the St. Theresa Catholic Church, 506 West Second Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Bernadine Howser will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 7, in the St. Theresa Catholic Church, 506 West Second Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459, with the Rev. Joseph Hoi as the Celebrant. Lector for the Mass will be Mrs. Mary Nelson and music for the Mass will be under the direction of Mrs. Donna Knapp.
Interment for Mrs. Bernadine Howser will be in the Freedom Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home. Pallbearers for Mrs. Howser will be Vernon Goodman, Bill Howser, Gary Clark, Kenny Sims, Jeff Sims, and Will Rollins, and her honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Howser, Frankie Howser, Bradly Robbins, Maudie Robbins, and Tanner Wade Robbins.
