Obituary

Bernard Stephen "Bernie" Buschmann, of Freeburg, was born May 30, 1929, at Vienna, a son of William John and Clara Catherine (Zimmer) Buschmann, and departed this life at 4:56 a.m., on Monday, October 16, 2017, in Villa Marie Skilled Nursing, Jefferson City. He had attained the age of 88 years, 5 months, 17 days.

Mr. Buschmann was united in marriage on May 21, 1955, at Freeburg, to the former Miss Teresa Struemph, and to this union six children were born. He was preceded in death by his father, William "Bill", on May 31, 1999; his mother, Clara, on April 5, 1995; his sister, Marcie Wansing Ready on March 13, 2013; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Buschmann on July 28, 2007, and Rosalee "Rosie" Buschmann on December 8, 2014; and two brothers-in-law, Melvin Wansing on December 27, 1997, and Claude Veasman on March 12, 2015.

On March 5, 1951, at St. Louis, Mr. Buschmann entered into active federal service in the Army of the United States and served until March 4, 1953, when he was honorably discharged at Camp Polk, Louisiana, at the rank of Private First Class. A man of excellent character, Bernard's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial American Legion Post No. 317, both of Freeburg. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing cards. During his working life, he started as an entry level employee and through the years worked his way up to Executive Vice President of The Larry Goad and Company in St. Louis for seventeen years and in Independence for twenty-four years retiring in 1995 and then moving to Freeburg from Blue Springs.
