Carol Jacqualine Vassar, age 81, of Vichy, was born on December 6, 1942, at Red Oak, Iowa, a daughter of Carl Jackson and Margaret Rose (Shaw) McShan, and passed from this life on Sunday, March 24, 2024, in the Maries Manor, Vienna.
Mrs. Vassar was baptized in 1982 and was a member of the First Baptist Church while living in Lexington, Nebraska. Carol was also a member of the Eagles Club, Brothers of the Third Wheel and The Ladies in the Wind. She loved crocheting, sewing, gardening, baking, cooking and canning, but above all enjoyed being with her family and grandkids.
Mrs. Vassar had been employed with Monroe Shocks of Cozad, Nebraska, for 21 years, retiring in 2001 and moving to Missouri April 5, 2021.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Vassar include: her husband, Sammie Douglas Vassar, Fremont, Nebraska; her children, Carma Jo Ernesti (Carl), Vichy; James M. Head (Angie), Cozad, Nebraska, and Teresa C. Brestel (Ron), Lincoln, Nebraska; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two grandsons that she helped to raise, Terry James Vassar and his three children, Osiris Vassar, Chaos Vassar and Marceline Vassar, and Raymond Patrick O'Brien (Melissa) and their two children, Jason R. O'Brien and Ariya L. O'Brien; her brothers, Robbie O. McShan, Gibbon, Nebraska, and Andy Combs (Kathy), state of Arizona, and her sister, Jeri L. Underwood (Stanley), Lexington, Nebraska, and other siblings, Shirley McShan, and C.D McShan; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Margaret; her son, Terry Jean Vassar, and sisters, Virginia Lee Ashcraft, Teri Joe Benham, Wanda Fay Rogers, Sharon McShan, and Sandy McShan.
Following the wishes of Carol, the family elected cremation under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
