Caroline Jane Alexander, of Dixon, was born on August 21, 1913, at Fairview, Oklahoma, a daughter of James Franklin and Alma Myrtle (Bailey) Shelton, and departed this life at 7:05 a.m., on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab. She had attained the age of 101 years, 11 months, and 7 days.
Caroline was united in marriage to Luther Jasper Alexander on October 10, 1931, at Vienna, and to this union, eight children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.J., on December 29, 1995; three sons, Buell Alphro Alexander on July 28, 1989, Hurschall Laroy Alexander on December 10, 1986, and Luther Leland Alexander on March 12, 1990; two daughters-in-law, Mary Lea Alexander on June 10, 1995, and Pam Alexander on September 23, 1993; one granddaughter, Kimberlea Alexander Horn, on June 12, 2003; one great-grandson, Jacob Alexander, on April 21, 1990; her father in 1962; her mother in 1988; two brothers, Thomas Edward Shelton and wife, Roberta, and James Monroe Shelton; and two sisters, Lorene Nellie Gaylord and husband, Justin, and Yvonne Sloan and husband, Homer.
Caroline had been a member of the Dixon Church of Christ since about 1948. During her working life, she not only had been a devoted housewife and homemaker, but had been employed by the Brown Shoe Company in Dixon, for twenty years, retiring in 1979. Caroline was an accomplished seamstress, loved to crochet and embroidery, and enjoyed collecting teapots and porcelain dolls.
Caroline cherished and loved her family with five children and other family members left to mourn her passing which include: Jack Alexander and wife, Mary, of Springfield; and Brenda Aaron and husband, Johnny; Linda Overshon and husband, Bob; Dariel Alexander and fiancée, Kathleen Creamer; and Angela Baker and husband, Danny, all of Dixon; two daughters-in-law, Patsy Alexander and Maxine Alexander, both of Dixon; eleven grandchildren, Randy Alexander, Kent Alexander, Kevin Alexander, Gay Lynn Warman, Brandon Overshon, Shawn Alexander, Tracie Medley, Terry Dean Baker, Tina Robertson, Dustin Baker, and Courtney Nivens; eighteen great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Caroline at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 30, 2015, in the Church of Christ, Dixon with Jarrod Harp officiating.
Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home. Pallbearers for Caroline were Brandon Overshon, Shawn Alexander, Terry Dean Baker, Dustin Baker, Nicholas Robertson and Kory Medley. Honorary pallbearers were Nathan Warman, Tucker Robertson, Randy Alexander, Kent Alexander and Kevin Alexander.
