Obituary

Carolyn Sue Hayes, age 84, of Vienna, was born January 28, 1940, in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of George and Blossom Bettie (Luhrsen) Nelson, and passed from this life on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Maries Manor, Vienna.

She was united in marriage on July 5, 1958, at the Kenner church of God, Dixon, to Robert "Bob" Hayes, who preceded her in death on November 11, 2014.

Carolyn was a baptized early in life and was member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Babbtown, MO. She could often be found playing cards and she loved to gamble. Carolyn also enjoyed embroidering, road trips with her grandchildren, she learned to fly a plane, and she was proud that she was the first girl born into the Nelson Family after 100 years of only boys!

During her working career, Carolyn owned and help operate General Hydraulics for 15 years with her late husband, Bob, when they lived in Huntsville, Alabama. After moving to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, she worked for Lehigh High University as a secretary for Dean of Students. Carolyn and Bob then moved to Cranford, New Jersey where they owned and operated Roden. In 1994 they moved to St. Louis before returning to Vienna in 2012. Throughout her working life, Carolyn was a devoted mother and housewife.

Those left to mourn the passing of Carolyn include: her daughters, Cynthia "Cindi" Weber and husband, Paul, of Holts Summit, and Sherry Hayes and wife, Wendy Cook, of Cuba; three grandchildren, Zachary Weber and wife, Andrea, of St. Charles, Megan Kiefer of Kansas City, and Alex Weber and wife, Lauren, of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Oliver Philip Weber, Sullivan Patrick Weber, and Violet Imogen Weber; four sisters, Mary Ellen Wansing and Judy Yeary, both of Vienna, Virginia Perry and husband, Bob, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Georgia Monzon and husband, Louis, of Anchorage, AK; nephews; nieces; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

In addition to her husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by her father, George, on October 7, 2002; and her mother, Blossom, on March 4, 2013.

Visitation for Mrs. Carolyn Hayes will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 406 South Main Street, Vienna, with her funeral service following at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Bart Mueller, St. John's Lutheran Church, Babbtown, officiating.

Interment for Mrs. Carolyn Hayes will be beside her loving husband in Kenner Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Pallbearers for Carolyn will be Paul Weber, Wendy Cook, Alex Weber, Josh Schubert, Zachary Weber, and Michael Wansing.
