Cathy Acord, of Dixon, was born on April 3, 1951, at Dixon, a daughter of Virgil Wesley and Velma Lea (Fritchey) Thompson, and departed this life at 11:05 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2016, at her residence in Dixon. Cathy had attained the age of 65 years, 8 months, and 9 days.
Cathy was united in marriage on November 22, 1981, at Corpus Christy, Texas, to Kenny Acord, who preceded her in death on July 31, 2004. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three children Steffan Eugene on December 30, 1969, Warren Daniel on February 15, 1971, and Chastity Rae on June 1, 1975; her father, Virgil on December 15, 1987; her mother, Velma on December 2, 2016; one brother and sister-in-law, Wesley Eugene and Betty Thompson, on July 27, 2015; one sister, Denise Kay Humphrey, on October 11, 2011; and one nephew, Adam Cole Thompson on September 6, 1984.
Cathy had accepted Jesus Christs as her Personal Savior and had been a life-long member of the First Assembly of God Church, Dixon. During her working career she had been the secretary and bookkeeper for both the First Assembly of God Church, Dixon, and the Power House Church, Iberia, a recruiter and crew leader for the United States Census Bureau, a purchasing agent for a national hotel change, a tax preparer for the Missouri Department of Revenue, an administrative assistant at Fort Leonard Wood, and a field interviewer for several intuitions. Early in life Cathy was a member of the Good News Singers and was a talented musician who could play any instrument she picked up. She was a seamstress, loved to crochet, enjoyed baseball, and traveling across the country. Cathy was devoted to her family and was always diligent in providing for their needs, especially her Mother.
Those left to mourn the passing of Cathy include: Her fiancé, John Woodward, Dixon; one brother Virgil Stephen "Steve" Thompson (Helen), Jefferson City; one brother-in-law, Darrell "Maynard" Humphrey, Iberia; seven nephews and nieces, Tanya, Melissa, Joshua, Amanda, Andrea, Katie, and Andy; six great-nephews and nieces, Tyler, Savannah, Owen, Peyton, Elizabeth, and Liddy; and many other relatives and friends.
