Obituary

Mr. Charles Michael "Mike" Sease, age 74, of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Dixon, was born January 30, 1948, at Rolla, the son of Charles R. and Lillian L. (Raines) Sease, and passed from this life Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at his residence in Topeka from an apparent heart attack.

Mike grew up in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Dixon, where he accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized.  He was a 1966 graduate of the Dixon R-1 High School and a 1970 graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri University of Science and Technology) with an engineering degree.  Mike was one of the best trumpet players ever to be in the Dixon High School band with American trumpeter Al Hirt being his example.  He could triple tongue his trumpet music just like Al Hirt which was really an accomplishment.

The Sease family was an integral part in the establishment of the Oak Hills Country Club and Golf Course in Dixon, where Mike thoroughly enjoyed playing golf as much as he could, any time day or night, when he had a free minute and maybe dragging the sand greens just a little bit in his favor.  Mike's Lionel model Santa Fe streamlined eight car full scale passenger train set was a favorite of all the kids in the neighborhood with many hours being spent playing and running the train.  The Sease family was co-owner and operator of the Sease and Veasman Drug Store in Dixon for many years with Mike's dad being in charge of the soda fountain area and his chocolate milk shakes being the best in Dixon.  The soda fountain area was a favorite after school gathering place.

He put his engineering degree to good use for all of his working life.  Mike was employed as a Bridge Inspector for the Kansas Department of Transportation, Topeka, until his retirement.

Those left to celebrate the life of Mike include:  His three daughters, DeeDee Nicholson and husband, Tim, of Dixon; and Jeannie Sease and fiancé, Steve, and Katherine Sease, all of Topeka, Kansas; his three grandsons, D.J. Sease, Brayden Sease, and Alex Sease, all of Topeka, Kansas; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles R. Sease, on July 29, 1997; his mother, Lillian L. (Raines) Sease, on February 29, 1996; his paternal grandfather, Clifford R. Sease, on May 28, 1958; his paternal grandmother, Opal Pearl (Roam) Sease, on October 20, 1976; his maternal grandfather, Claude Raines; and his maternal grandmother, Maudie Williams; maternal uncles, Ray Allen, Jim Allen, and Joe Allen; and maternal aunts, Ina Allen, Donna Allen, Eva Allen, and Freda Allen.

A family graveside inurnment service will be held for Mike near his parents and grandparents in the Dixon Cemetery, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon.

Honorary pallbearers for Mike are his 1966 Dixon R-1 High School classmates.
