Obituary

Christopher Frank Wieberg, of Hardeeville, South Carolina, formerly of Freeburg, was born on October 29, 1963, at St. Louis, a son of Fred Edward and Phyllis Stephanie (Klaus) Wieberg, and departed this life at 12:15 p.m., on Monday, December 31, 2018, in the Coastal Carolina Medical Center, Hardeeville, South Carolina, from complications after suffering a gastrointestinal hemorrhage.  He had attained the age of 55 years, 2 months, and 2 days.

Chris grew up in the Holy Family Catholic Church and was a graduate of the Holy Family School, both in Freeburg.  During this time, he had worked on the family farm, near Freeburg, as well.  He was also a graduate of the Fatima High School, Westphalia, prior to beginning his U.S. Army and his U.S. Army Reserve career.

In the early 1980's, at St. Louis, Chris entered into active federal service in the Army of the United States and served until April 11, 2010, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Stewart, Georgia, at the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6).  During his military career, Chris was trained to be an Artillery Mechanic, a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, and a Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, and had served in South West Asia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Operation Enduring Freedom.

He had been awarded and entitled to wear the Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star, the Army Lapel Button, the NATO Afghanistan Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (2 nd Award), the Army Good Conduct Medal (4 th Award), the National Defense Service Medal (2 nd Award), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the South West Asia Service Medal w/ Bronze Service Star (3 rd Award), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (6 th Award), the Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ M Device (2 nd Award), the Marksman Marksmanship Qualification Badge w/ Rifle Bar, the Driver and Mechanic Badge w/ Driver-A Bar, the Driver and Mechanic Badge w/ Driver-M Bar, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge w/ Driver-Wheeled Vehicle (S) Clasp.  The "Honorable Discharge" presented to Chris, at the conclusion of his military career, is a testimonial of honest and faithful service our country.

Those left to mourn the passing of Chris include:  His children, Margaret Wieberg, Schoolcraft, Michigan, Alexander Wieberg, country of Germany, and Nicholas Wieberg (Addie) and Brianna Wieberg, all of the state of Georgia; his parents, Fred and Phyllis Wieberg, Freeburg; his siblings, George Wieberg (Connie), Columbia, Stephen Wieberg (Julie), Freeburg, Anna Lebesh, Fleming Island, Florida, and Timothy Wieberg (Danielle), Charlottesville, North Carolina; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Christopher Wieberg will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, 104 West Oliver Street, Freeburg, Missouri  65035.  The Memorial Service for Christopher Wieberg will follow at 1:00 p.m., in the Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. William D. Debo officiating.

Interment, with full military honors under the auspices of the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial American Legion Post 317, Freeburg, will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.  Honorary pallbearers for Christopher Wieberg will be Margaret Wieberg, Alexander Wieberg, Nicholas Wieberg, Brianna Wieberg, George Wieberg, Stephen Wieberg, Anna Lebesh, and Timothy Wieberg.

Memorials in memory of Christopher Wieberg are suggested by his family to the Holy Family School with envelopes available in the Holy Family Church the day of the service or in care of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri  65582.
