Obituary

Clarence Kampeter, age 89, of Argyle passed away September 8, 2016, in the Linn Living Center. Clarence had been in failing health for several years suffering from Parkinson's disease.

Clarence was born September 5, 1927, a son of Edward and Josephine (Reinkemeyer) Kampeter. Clarence married Freda (Wieberg) Kampeter on June 16, 1948, in Argyle, MO, and to this union, seven children were born.

Clarence was raised on a farm near Argyle, and after he and Freda were married, they purchased their own farm in Maries County from Clarence's Uncle, Joe Reinkemeyer. Most of their older children attended Renneke School. Clarence was the school bus driver for many years, transporting students in his blue 1954 Ford station wagon.

Clarence and Freda moved their family to the city of Argyle, MO, in 1963 to a much larger home. Clarence then took a job with Quaker Window Products Company and then later with Westinghouse and the MO State Prison, retiring from the prison in 1990. He was a member of the Argyle Knights of Columbus Council No. 2047 and the Argyle VFW Post No. 8045, and a parishioner of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle.

Clarence was drafted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 29th Infantry Regiment in Kwan-ja, Korea, from March 4, 1946 to April 12, 1947.

Clarence enjoyed driving and loved to travel to surrounding states with his wife and other family members. He loved playing cards and he kept a lawn and garden that was envious to all who passed. As well, no tool or machine was ever put away with dirt on it.

Survivors include his wife, Freda, of 68 years, his children, Judy (Maurice) Stuecken of Freeburg, Marcia (Gary) Scheperle of Jefferson City, Betty Council of Freeburg, Ralph Kampeter of Argyle, Cindy (Marlon) Stuecken, of Freeburg, Laure (Rick) Falter of Koeltztown ; one son-in-law, Warren Haslag of Linn; one sister, Pauline Brunnert of Westphalia, and a brother, Gary Kampeter, and wife Lori of Taos; sister-in-law, Rita Kampeter, of Argyle; 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Clarence was preceded in death by his father, Edward, on August 11, 1981; his mother, Josephine, on January 27, 1998; his daughter, Bonnie Haslag, on May 2, 1999; his son-in-law, Larry Scheperle, on October 13, 1971; his son-in-law, Don Council, on October 9, 2006; and his brother, Lawrence Kampeter, on December 10, 2015.
