Obituary

Colleen Shirley Fannon, of Vienna, was born on October 20, 1929, in Maries County, a daughter of Robert Sherman, Sr. and Agnes Mae (Winkelblack) Gray, and departed this life at 12:42 p.m., on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, in the University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia.  She had been in failing health for some time and had been living with her daughter, Paula, enjoying love and care from her family.  She had attained the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 5 days.

Colleen was united in marriage on April 24, 1948, at Vienna, to Buel Ragan Fannon, and to this union, two daughters were born.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Buel, on April 25, 1984; a son-in-law, James Meyer, on September 18, 2012; a granddaughter, Heather Farrow, on July 21, 2016; her father, Sherman, on April 21, 1976; her mother, Agnes, on November 13, 1994; and her brothers, Robert Sherman "Pete" Gray, Jr. on July 9, 1985, Kenneth Eugene Gray on August 15, 2000, and Arnold Lee Gray on November 28, 2006.

Following her graduation from the Vienna High School in 1947, Colleen attended beauty school in Jefferson City, and upon completion of her training, she opened her own beauty shop in Vienna.  After closing her shop, Colleen was employed by the Maries R-1 School in the cafeteria, then as a teacher's aide in the Special Education Program working with Eleanor Allen and Lucy Helms, and finally as an aide in the school library, all prior to her retirement in 1991.  She also, in Vienna, had owned and operated her ceramic shop and later assisted her daughter, Paula, in her flower shop, greatly enjoying her time at both places.  Colleen offered ceramic classes at her shop which actually turned into a "girls' night out" for women in the area.

As if her working career was not enough to do, Colleen especially liked to quilt, making and quilting all of her grandchildren a quilt; sewing, making many creations and clothing for her girls; both vegetable and flower gardening; cooking, creating a special memory for all that had eaten anything she cooked or baked; and really liking to travel with her daughter, Stephanie, and her family.  She was a devoted housewife, homemaker, a person diligent in providing for the needs of her family, a kind hearted person, and a person that was always good to her neighbors.

She was a life-long member of the Vienna United Methodist Church and was a fifty plus years member of the Rainbow Chapter No. 263, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Coffey Brothers American Legion Post No. 12, both of Vienna.  Colleen was a member of the USS Houston Survivors and Widows Group.
