Daniel "Danny" Leander Berhorst, age 80, of Freeburg, was born October 22, 1945, at Freeburg, a son of Bernard John "Ben" and Louise Marie (Bock) Berhorst, and passed from this life on Thursday, April 2, 2026, while in Westphalia Hills Nursing Home.

He was married on June 12, 1971, in Freeburg, to the former Miss Elizabeth "Betty" Virgina Hagenhoff, and to this union four children were born.

Danny had been a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, his entire life. Through the years he enjoyed playing ball and hunting, especially coon hunting. He also loved spending time with family especially over the holidays.

During his working life, Danny was self-employed raising cattle and hogs, and later dogs.

Those left to celebrate the life of Danny include: his loving wife of 54 years, Betty, of the home near Vienna; his daughter, Terri Woodward of Freeburg; three sons, Shawn Berhorst and wife Jill, Benjamin Berhorst and wife Erin, and Rodney Berhorst and wife Beth, all of Freeburg; eleven grandchildren, Taylor Hawkes (Tanner), Kaylie Woodward (fiancé, Nick Jurd), Dawson Woodward, Roselyn Berhorst, Ava Berhorst, Lucy Berhorst, Benjamin Berhorst, Charlie Berhorst, Parker Berhorst, Cooper Berhorst, and Spencer Berhorst; two great-grandchildren, Cohen Hawkes and Ada Hawkes; one sister, Patricia Dvorak; one sister-in-law, Jean Berhorst; nephews, nieces, and many other relatives and friends.

Danny was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Molly Woodward, on February 7, 2006; his father, Ben, on December 13, 1975; his mother, Louise, on February 19, 1979; and three sisters, Betty Ann Redel on April 7, 2020, Mary Louise Bagneschi on October 9, 2008, and Virgina Berhorst on September 8, 2022; and brother, Bernard "Jack" John Berhorst, on July 22, 2025.

A Rosary for Mr. Danny Berhorst will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. with a visitation to follow from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, all in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with Rev. William Debo officiating.

Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
