Obituary

Darlis Myrtle Honse, of Vienna, was born on June 30, 1927, near Vienna, in Maries County, a daughter of Adolph Frederick and Lettie Ann (Copeland) Picker, and departed this life at 9:50 p.m., on Saturday, December 7, 2013, in the Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City. Darlis had attained the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 8 days.

Darlis was united in marriage on July 10, 1982, at Vienna, to George Elmer "Buck" Honse, who preceded his wife in death on November 3, 1982. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles Edward Steadman on January 22, 1968, and William Coy Steadman on November 20, 1996; twin great-grandsons, William Joseph and Johnathon Wayne Steadman on February 27, 1998; her father on March 4, 1982; her mother on December 20, 1968; one brother, Charles Adolph Picker on May 2, 1987; and her sister, Bettie Lou Parks on June 21, 2011.

Darlis had been a homemaker for all her working life and had owned and operated Steadman's Market, north of Vienna on Highway 63, for twenty years. The way Darlis lived and interacted with others was the best tribute anyone could have for their life.

Those left to mourn the passing of Darlis include: Two daughters, Letty Jo Farley and Betty Ann Whitsell, both of Jefferson City; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Clay and Emma Lou Picker, Union; other relatives; and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Darlis at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, December 12, 2013, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Pastor Doug Crader of the Jefferson City Christian Center, Jefferson City, officiating.

Interment was in the Vienna Public Cemetery under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Darlis were Matthew Weider, Bill Steadman, Josh Steadman, Zach Whitsell, Jesse Messersmith, Wyatt Messersmith, and Andrew Steadman. Honorary pallbearers were Austin Emerson, Paul Emerson, Clyde Emerson, Hayden Steadman, Henry Steadman, George Steadman, and Karson Weider.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family of Darlis to the Vienna Public Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
