David Burnell McKinney, of rural Westphalia, was born on January 2, 1952, at Granite City, Illinois, a son of Ellis Raney and Lillian Fay (VanOstran) McKinney, and departed this life at 3:31 a.m., on Tuesday morning, March 21, 2017, at his residence, near Folk. David had been in failing health since October of 2016 from a progressive condition of Alzheimer's disease, and had attained the age of 65 years, 2 months, and 19 days.
David was united in marriage on May 27, 1995, at Folk, to the former Miss Jennifer Louise Dawdy.
The date and place for David's enlistment in the United States Army was on February 20, 1970, at Rolla. His training included his military occupational specialty and number as a Dispatcher – 63C10 as well as achieving his military qualification as a US Rifle M1 – Sharpshooter in 1973 and was entitled to wear the Rifle Qualifying Badge. David's home station organization was the 143rd Engineer Company F, Rolla, where he was discharged in April of 1976, at the rank of Private First Class. David's military career is an honest and faithful testimony of service to his country, the United States of America.
David had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior while attending the Little Flock Baptist Church, near Vienna, and had followed his Lord in baptism, as well as being a member of the Iron Workers Local 396, St. Louis. During his working life, he had been employed by numerous major companies in the United States as an iron worker, for thirty years, prior to his retirement in 2010. Activities David especially enjoyed included fishing, playing music, hunting, playing cards, hunting mushrooms and arrowheads, and loving his family.
Those left to mourn the passing of David include: His loving wife, Jennifer, of the home near Folk; his children, David McKinney, Jr. of Robertsville, Andrew McKinney of Van Cleve, Fallon McKinney and friend, Clinton Loehner of Folk, and Arran McKinney of Folk; his grandchildren, Hannah McKinney and Seth McKinney; his mother and step-father, Lillian McKinney-Vineyard and Jim Vineyard of Vienna; his siblings, Alice "Sissy" Green of Theodosia, twins-Jimmy McKinney of Vienna and Jeanette Bizer of Lake Ozark, and Laurie Pierce of Vienna; nephews; nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by one son, Jamie Joseph McKinney, on May 4, 1979; and his father, Ellis, on June 18, 2003.
