Obituary

David Lee Terpstra Jr., age 72, of Jefferson City, was born April 13, 1954, at New Sharon, Iowa, a son of David Lee and Irene Louise (Koch) Terpstra, and passed from this life on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at his home in Jefferson City.

He was married on October 11, 1986, in Jefferson City, to the former Miss Rita Lynne Purdham, and to this union two sons were born.

Lee was a member of the Capitol City Christian Church, Jefferson City, since 1992 and every Christmas the church would conduct a "Journey to Bethlehem" which Lee was the first innkeeper in and continued the tradition for over ten years.  Over the years Lee enjoyed reading, fishing, and watching his sons play sports, which he never missed a game. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his two grandchildren who were the center of his life.

During his working life, Lee was a computer specialist. He started his career with the State of Missouri Social Servies Department, then went to work for DST Systems for 17 years, and he was employed with Wipro until his health no longer permitted him to work.

Those left to celebrate the life of Lee include: his loving wife of 39 years, Lynne, of the home in Jefferson City; his sons, Andrew Terpstra (Lizzy), and Peter Terpstra (Essy) both of Jefferson City; two grandchildren, Beau Terpstra and Landry Terpstra; three brothers, Dennis Terpstra (Carla) of Rock Port, Illinois, Wayne Terpstra (Kandace) of Lee Summitt, and Terry Terpstra (Kayla) of Lincoln, Michigan; one sister, Louise Klusman (Jim) of Mexico; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Hammock of Springfield, Janice Lindeman (Byron) of the state of Arizona, and Joyce Huffman (Jeff) of Vienna;  fifteen nieces and nephews, Carrie Kolweier (Dusty), Michael Terpstra (Shana), Christina Seidler (Brad), Arlina Terpstra, Spencer Terpstra, Sean Terpstra, Hannah Morton (Jeff), Alissa Terpstra, Emily Hammock, Erin Mock (Shawn), Amy Fencl (Zach), Katie Apfels (Gary), Kacey Hays (Adam), Hayley Kuntzman (Alex), and Molly Helmig (Kenny); and many other relatives and friends.

Lee was preceded in death by his father, David on December 30, 2014, and his mother, Irene on April 20, 2006.

Visitation for Lee will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, all in the Capitol City Christian Church, 1608 Swifts Highway, Jefferson City, MO 65109, with Pastor Don Fankhauser officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Bethel Cemetery, Vienna, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family for the Bethel Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the church on the day of his service or c/o the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
