Delia Bell, of Vienna, formerly of Dixon, was born on September 16, 1911, at Dixon, a daughter of Frank L. and Agnes (Hutchison) Gocke, and departed this life at 5:45 p.m., Friday, July 12, 2013 in the Maries Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center, Vienna. Mrs. Bell had been in failing health and had attained the age of 101 years, 9 months, and 27 days.
Mrs. Bell was united in marriage on December 12, 1935, at Dixon, to Homer Lee Bell, and to this union, four children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 23, 2003; one son, Homer Bell, Jr., on May 13, 2005; her father on July 17, 1963; her mother on October 25, 1952; three brothers, August (Gussie) Gocke, Francis Gocke and Edward Gocke; and two sisters, Elizabeth Gocke Christoph and Agnes Bassett Crider.
Mrs. Bell was baptized early in life and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dixon, for 90 years, and had taught Sunday School there for over 30 years. She was a cook for the Maries R-1 School system at Hayden Heights School for 18 years and a volunteer at the Vienna Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Bell enjoyed sewing and quilting and was a loving and devoted homemaker and housewife.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Bell include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Franz Bell and Jim and Ursula Bell, all of Dixon; one daughter, Fern Robertson, Vienna; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Bell at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes, with Bro. Bobby Williford, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Dixon, and Pastor Clarence Campbell, Vichy Camp Ground Church of God, officiating. Vocal selections were provided by the Campbell family for the service.
Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mrs. Bell were her grandchildren and friends.
Memorials are suggested per the wishes of the family, with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
