Deloris Mae Goode, age 90, of Dixon, was born November 29, 1931, in Maries County, a daughter of Elbert Chesley and Emma May (Ponder) Martin, and passed from this life Sunday, July 17, 2022, at her residence near Dixon.
She was united in marriage November 28, 1975, at Ferguson, Missouri, to Leon J. Goode, who preceded his wife in death July 26, 1997.
Deloris accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life and was baptized. Deloris was very active in her church. She enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher, serving on the church board, or faithfully working wherever she was needed. At the time of her passing, she was a member of the Rolla Church of the Nazarene, Rolla, Missouri. The last few years she had been attending Freedom Church in Dixon with her daughter and son-in-law.
Deloris was a graduate of Dixon High School, and after graduating, she continued her education to obtain her teaching certificate. After receiving her certificate, Deloris taught at Lambeth School, near Vienna, and later she was employed as a teacher in the St. Louis area. However, for the majority of her working life, Deloris was a self-employed licensed beautician and cosmetologist. She was owner operator of two Beauty Salons in Ferguson, Missouri, for twenty years prior to her retirement in 1991. Deloris and her husband, Leon enjoyed traveling and going to Bluegrass festivals. They spent many weekends camping with good friends from their church or taking a few of their grandkids fishing.
Those left to celebrate the life of Deloris include: Her daughter, Carol Schoenborn, and husband, Rick, of Dixon; her step-daughters, Vickie Garner of Jacksonville, Florida, and Sandra Maris of Chesterfield, Missouri; one step-son-in-law, Douglas Proffitt, of Jacksonville, Florida; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Martin, and wife, Kay, of Excelsior, Minnesota; one sister, Mary Sue Vinson, and husband, George, of Rolla, Missouri; sister-in-law, Norine Martin, of Parkland, Florida; her very close friend Bernice Trindle, of Rolla, Missouri; nephews, nieces, with great and great-greats as well; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ches and Emma Martin; siblings and their spouses, Florence Roberts and husband, Glen, Morris Martin and wife, Jean, Phillip Martin, and Fay Ramsey and husband, Arthur; sister-in-law Marilyn Martin, and one step-daughter, Sharon Proffitt.
A memorial service for Deloris will be held on Saturday October 8, 2022, in the Freedom Church, 105 West 2 nd Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459. Visitation will be held from 12 (noon) to 1 p.m. with services immediately following at 1 p.m. with Rick Schoenborn officiating under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon.
