Derin Michael Holterman, of Freeburg, was born on May 29, 1982, at Jefferson City, a son of Alex Joseph and Mary Frances (Mengwasser) Holterman, and departed this life on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at his residence. Derin had attained the age of 31 years, 9 months, and 4 days. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg; a graduate of the Holy Family School, Freeburg; and a graduate of the Fatima High School, Westphalia, in 2000. Following high school, Derin attended the Linn State Technical College and graduated from there in 2002 with a degree in auto mechanics and in 2003 with a degree in auto collision. He had taken advanced training classes located in South Carolina and Las Vegas, Nevada, for airbrushing techniques and had become highly skilled in his ability to paint or decorate using an airbrush. Derin had also competed on the national level with his skills at the Auto Collision Restoration for National Skills U.S.A. where he placed in the top ten nationwide at number eight. He was also a member of the advisory committee for the Nichols Career Center, Jefferson City. Derin was employed by the Troop F of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jefferson City, for the past ten years as an auto collision technician. He had also been involved in the care and maintenance of all the patrol vehicles throughout the state of Missouri. Activities Derin especially enjoyed, in addition to auto restoration, painting cars, and airbrushing, were hunting, fishing, playing cards, bailing hay, and driving the Ford 5000 Tractor. Those left to mourn the passing of Derin include: His parents, Alex and Mary Holterman, Freeburg; his brother, Ethan Holterman, Freeburg; his sister, Jenna Holterman, Freeburg; paternal grandmother, Donna Holterman, Freeburg; special friend and her daughter, Alicia Kemp and Halle Poling, Eldon; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation for Derin was held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 6, 2014. The Mass of Christian Burial for Derin was be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, March 7, 2014, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with the Rev. Nicholas J. Reid celebrating. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. All in attendance are invited to a catered fish dinner at the Freeburg American Legion Hall following the cemetery service. Memorial contributions for Masses or per the wishes of the family are suggested by the family of Derin with envelopes available at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
