Anthony Brunnert, Sr.

Donald "Don" Anthony Brunnert, age 91, of Vienna, was born June 30, 1934, a son of Frederick Anthony "Fritz" and Coletta Christine (Werdenhause) Brunnert, and passed from this life on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Maries Manor, Vienna.
On July 22, 1953, in St. Louis, Don entered active federal service in the United States Army and served until February 11, 1961, when he was honorably discharged at Ft. Benning Georgia, at the rank of SP5. A man of excellent character, Don's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country.
He was married November 27, 1958, to the former Ms. Gloria Mae Fechtel, and to this union five children were born.
Don was a member of the Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, and the American Legion Post #12, Vienna. He also served on the Visitation Catholic Church Parish Council, served as president on the Visitation Inter-Parish School Schoolboard, and was always helping where needed in the community. Don enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing guitar, horses, and in his younger years he enjoyed bowling on a bowling league and playing slow pitch ball.
As well as being a lifelong farmer, after Don's honorable discharge, he worked for Wulff Charcoal Company as the general manager, and prior to his retirement in 2002 he was an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance Company.
Those left to mourn the passing of Don include: his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Gloria, of the home in Vienna; his children, Don Brunnert Jr. (Misti) of Lake Ozarks, Mark Brunnert (Susan) of Vienna, Jim Brunnert of Jefferson City, John Brunnert (Carol) of Jefferson City, and Kelly Backues (Shane) of Vienna; six grandchildren, Zach Brunnert, Blair Schlueter (Sam), Kelcie Brunnert, Cole Brunnert, Carly Wilson (Forrest), and Sarah McEnnis (Luke); one great-granddaughter, Margot Schlueter; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. "We are gonna miss you Old Fart!"
Don was preceded in death by his parents Fritz and Coletta; stepfather, Vic Wulff; one sister, Norma Brunnert-Hughes; one half-brother, Ken Wulff; and three step siblings, Joan Buschmann, Verna Oligschlaeger, and Bob Wulff.
Visitation for Don will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2025, with a Rosary prayer service following at 7:00 p.m., and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2025, with his Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m., all in the Visitation Catholic Church, 105 N. Main Street, Vienna, MO. with Rev. Matthew Flatley as celebrant and Rev. Basil Tigga and Deacon Michael Brooks as co-celebrants, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
Interment with full military honors for Don Brunnert will be held in the Visitation Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers for Don will be Rick Hughes, Randy Hughes, Jana (Hughes) Agniel, Doug Hughes, Denny Hughes, Rodeny Hughes (deceased), Scott Hughes, Kip Hughes, and Brad Hughes. Honorary pallbearers for Don will be Zach Brunnert, Blair Schlueter, Kelcie Brunnert, Cole Brunnert, Carly Wilson, and Sarah McEnnis.
In Lieu of flowers the family of Don suggest memorials be made to Visitation Inter-Parish School with envelopes available at the church the day of his service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, MO 65582.
