Donald Lee Tappel, age78, of Argyle, was born September 22, 1944, at St. Louis, the son of Wilfred Henry and Zita Matilda (Wieberg) Tappel, and passed from this life Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at his residence in Argyle.

He was united in marriage May 1, 1965, at Argyle, to the former Miss Ann Steinman, and to this union, four children were born.

Donnie was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle, a former member of Knights of Columbus Council 2047 in Argyle, and was also a former member and Fire Chief of the Argyle Volunteer Fire Department.

During his working life, Donnie was employed at Play-Mor Trailers, Inc., Westphalia; Quaker Window Products Company, Freeburg; and DeLong's Steel Fabricating, Jefferson City, prior to being the owner and operator of Tappel Excavation, Argyle, until his retirement.  In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, especially deer, fishing, and spending time at the cabin on the Osage River.

Those left to celebrate the life of Donnie include:  His wife of almost fifty-eight years, Ann, of their home in Argyle; four children, Keith Tappel and wife, Jan, of Argyle, Kurt Tappel of Argyle, Jennifer Wieberg and husband, Kevin, of Argyle; and Gwen Schwartz of Westphalia; ten grandchildren, Blake Tappel (Kelsey), Kelly Fick (Derek), Katie Tappel, Klaire Tappel, John Tappel, Melanie Snodgrass (Jamey), Nathan Wieberg, Megan Wansing (Tanner), Zachery Schwartz (Jada), Ryan Schwartz (Teagen), nine great-grandchildren, Waylon Tappel, Jace Tappel, Payton Fick, Laney Fick, Bristol Snodgrass, Skyler Snodgrass, Paisley Wansing, Charlee Schwartz, and Owen Schwartz; two sisters, Barbara Bahr and husband, John, of Jefferson City, and Linda Pritzel of Koeltztown; nephews; nieces; other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred, on March 6, 2000; his mother, Zita, on November 29, 2022; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Pritzel, on December 30, 2015, and Charles Bax, on March 16, 2003.

Visitation for Mr. Donnie Tappel will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023, in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, One Church Lane, Argyle, Mo 65001, with his Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m. in the church with Rev. Basil Tigga as the celebrant and Deacon Michael Brooks assisting, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.

Interment for Donnie will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Argyle.  Pallbearers will be Blake Tappel, Nathan Wieberg, Ryan Schwartz, Derek Fick, Jamey Snodgrass, and Tanner Wansing, and honorary pallbearers will be Zachery Schwartz and John Tappel.

Memorial contributions in memory of Donnie Tappel are suggested for Masses or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital with envelopes available at the church the day of his service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, MO 65592.
