Obituary

Dorothy Gertrude Iven, of Freeburg, was born December 27, 1939, at Freeburg, a daughter of William Ballsar, Sr. and Catherine (Bock) Nilges, and departed this life at 1:20 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2013, at her residence in Freeburg. Mrs. Iven had attained the age of 73 years, 5 months, and 20 days.

Mrs. Iven was united in marriage on September 12, 1989, at Jefferson City, to John Henry Iven. She was preceded in death by her father on March 18, 1970; her mother on March 26, 1971; two brothers, Victor Nilges and Ben Nilges; and one brother-in-law, Tom DeBroeck.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. Mrs. Iven had been employed as a book binder for VonHoffman Press, Jefferson City, for twenty-one years retiring in 1990. Activities she enjoyed were quilting, spending time with her family, and especially being with her grandchildren.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Iven include; Her husband, John H. Iven, of the home in Freeburg; four sons, Steve Iven, Linn; George Iven and wife, Linda, and Andy Iven and wife, Michelle, all of Freeburg; and Randy Iven and wife, Donnetta, Vienna; four daughters, Sheila Kliethermes and husband, Bill, Westphalia; Wanda Reinkemeyer and husband, Roger, Freeburg; Becky Libbert and husband, Craig, Jefferson City; and Victoria Evans and husband, Richard, Hope Mills, North Carolina; one brother, Bill Nilges and wife, Nancy, Freeburg; three sisters, Barbara Nilges, Jefferson City; Georgia DeBroeck, Mansfield, Texas; and Mary Hoffman, Freeburg; two sisters-in-law, Esther Nilges and Rita Nilges, both of Jefferson City; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Iven at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2013, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with the Rev. Phil Niekamp celebrating.

Interment was in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.

Spiritual offerings to be applied for Masses or memorial contributions to the Holy Family Church and School are suggested by the family of Mrs. Iven with envelopes available at the Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
