Louis Duayn Slone, of Dixon, was born on October 28, 1942, at Dixon, a son of Louis Guy and Jessie Muriel (Bullock) Slone, and departed this life at 8:54 p.m., on Thursday, August 20, 2020, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab Center. He had attained the age of 77 years, 9 months, and 23 days.
On May 29, 1964, at Rolla, Duayn entered active federal service in the Army of the United States. During his time in the military, he served in the Infantry Branch and was trained in the use of Infantry Heavy Weapons in combat warfare. Duayn was released to the Army National Guard of Missouri on November 20, 1964, at Fort Polk, Louisiana, at the rank of PVT E-2 (P) and served in the National Guard until he was honorably discharged from the military.
Duayn was united in marriage on March 18, 1967, at Dixon, to the former Miss Linda Faye Jones, and to this union, two children were born.
He had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and had followed his Lord in baptism early in life and was currently a member of the Sheppard Baptist Church near Dixon. Duayn was always a person active in the Dixon community, where he had been a member of the Arlington Lodge No. 346, A.F. & A.M. for more than fifty years and a Past Master of the Lodge, the Garnet Chapter No. 283 Order of the Eastern Star, the Dixon High Twelve Club, the Dixon City Council for Ward 3, and the Dixon Saddle Club.
During his working life, Duayn had been a truck driver for Howard Ready Mix, plant manager for Haven Ready Mix, and a consultant for Bluegrass Ready Mix, all in St. Robert; an agent and installer in the Dixon area, along with Bill Robbins, for the Quaker Window Products Company in Freeburg; had worked for his friend, Eugene Kreiser, at Gilbert Furniture in Dixon, helping with deliveries and carpet installations; and was always active in his own farming and raising of livestock. He owned and operated, along with his wife, Slone Feed and Supply in Dixon for a number of years prior to his retirement. Always a hard worker, Duayn continued farming and raising cattle until failing health.
Those left to mourn the passing of Duayn include: His wife of fifty-three years, Linda Slone, of the home in Dixon; his two children, Bradley Slone and wife, Gwen, and Alison Keck and husband, Aaron, all of Dixon; his four grandchildren, Cheyenne Dudenhoeffer and husband, Brent, of Columbia, and Alexander Keck, Montgomery Keck, and William Slone, all of Dixon; his one sister and two brothers, Joy Leah Anderson, and Mike Slone and wife, Judy, all of Dixon, and Dwight Slone and wife, Rhonda, of Vienna; nephews; nieces; cousins; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis, on May 11, 2003; his mother, Jessie, on November 3, 2001; infant sister, Judith Ann Slone, born in 1946 and died in 1947; one brother-in-law, Thomas Lowell "Tommy" Anderson, on January 10, 2018; one niece, Melissa Kay Slone, on June 3, 1995; his father-in-law, William Harold "Bill" Jones, on August 25, 1987; and his mother-in-law, Virginia Lea (Baker) Jones, on June 8, 1980.
Visitation for Mr. Louis Duayn Slone will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., with Masonic Services at 6:30 p.m. by Arlington Lodge No. 346 A.F. & A.M., on Monday, August 24, 2020, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 East Third Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
Funeral services for Mr. Louis Duayn Slone will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 East Third Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459, with the Rev. Austin McCormick, Pastor of Sheppard Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment, with full military honors by Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post 298, will be in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Dixon. Pallbearers for Duayn will be Bradley Slone, William Slone, Aaron Keck, Alexander Keck, Brent Dudenhoeffer, Mike Slone, and Dwight Slone, and honorary pallbearers will be Norman Nichols, Alfred Quick (Deceased), Fred Heeren, Elva Sinden and Dan Martin.
The family wishes to extend an invitation to all in attendance to a dinner co-hosted by the Sheppard Baptist Church and the Santee Community Church to be held in the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Hall of Post 298, Fifth and Ellen Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459, following the cemetery services.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Louis Duayn Slone are suggested by his family to the Dixon Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box EE, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
