Edna Louise Becker, of Strafford, formerly of Freeburg, was born September 6, 1922, at St. Louis, a daughter of Hugh and Clara (Mabry) Lovell, and departed this life at 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at her residence in Strafford. Mrs. Becker had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 92 years, 5 months, and 19 days.
Mrs. Becker was united in marriage on July 13, 1940, at St. Louis, to Joseph Valentine Becker, and to this union, nine children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, on February 21, 1991; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Esther Becker; one daughter, Joyce Combs; one grandson, Scott Lee Hayes; two sons-in-law, Kenneth Rackers and Jim Bob Miller; her parents; two brothers, Leslie Lovell and Kenneth Lovell; and three sisters, Geneva Berry, Pearl Pierce, and Orpha Mason.
Mrs. Becker was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, and while living in Strafford since 2006, she had attended the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Springfield. During her working life, she and her husband, Joe, were the co-owners of the family business, Becker Millwork, Inc., founded in 1948 in Freeburg, until her retirement. Mrs. Becker was also a devoted housewife and homemaker, and especially enjoyed embroidering, dancing, and playing dominos as well as being an avid fan of Cubs Baseball and Elvis Presley. She had successfully completed the Citizens Police Academy Training Program and received her qualification certificate.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Becker include: Her children and family, Kristie Miller, Linn; Rebecca Rackers, Jefferson City; Richard Becker (Brenda) Freeburg; Delbert Becker and special friend, Ellen, Freeburg; Janet Bax (Rick), Linn; Ronda Luebbert (Junior), Strafford; and Tina Becker, Russellville; son-in-law, Bill Combs, Jefferson City; brother, Billy Lovell (Helen),Granite City, Illinois; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren with another one anticipated in May of 2015; two great-great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Mrs. Becker will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 28, 2015, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Becker at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 28, 2015, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with the Rev. Nicholas J. Reid as the Celebrant.
Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
Masses or Memorials to the Holy Family School are preferred by the family of Mrs. Becker with envelopes available at the Holy Family Catholic Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
