Obituary

Edward "Ed" Grellner passed peacefully at Jefferson City Manor, Jefferson City, on September 17, 2024. He was born on July 26, 1933, in Rich Fountain, MO, to Henry and Anna (Bauer) Grellner.

He worked on the family farm until September 9, 1953, when Ed was called to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. A man of excellent character, Ed's Honorable Discharge on August 17, 1955, is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country. After returning from his military service, Ed continued farming with his brother, Bill, until his parents passed away and later, they moved to Freeburg.

Ed was a great storyteller and liked to share a few jokes, even missing the "punch line" at times. He enjoyed card games, bowling, pitching horseshoes, wine making, traveling to many states on bus tours, but he especially enjoyed celebrating his birthday with relatives and friends. Ed went on an Honor Flight with his brother, Tom, and said it was very emotional especially Arlington Cemetery, along with the escort back to Columbia and the large crowd greeting them upon their return. He had been a resident at Jefferson Manor since 2022, and while he was there made many friends and had the best care.

Those left to mourn the passing of Ed include: his four sisters, Helen Rudroff and Christine Fick, both of Rich Fountain, Betty Stegeman, St. Elizabeth, and Cathy Bernskoetter and husband Harry, Taos; one sister-in-law, Elsie (Bock) Grellner; and many other relatives and friends.
