Mrs. Ethel Stewart, of Santa Cruz, California, formerly of Dixon, was born on January 10, 1917, in Pulaski County, a daughter of John Henry and Sara Penelope "Neppie" (Graham) Dodds, and departed this life on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at her residence. She had attained the age of 102 years, 6 months, and 22 days.
Mrs. Stewart was first united in marriage to Archie Eugene Morris, and to this union, one daughter, Janet Kay (Morris) Sargeant was born. Mr. Morris preceded his wife in death on May 14, 1948. Ethel was later united in marriage on April 7, 1951, at Dixon, to Thomas Arthur "Cy" Stewart, and to this union, one son, Thomas Ray Stewart was born. Mr. Stewart preceded his wife in death on September 19, 1991.
Following their working careers, Cy and Ethel moved back to Dixon, from California, for their retirement years. They attended the First Christian Church, Dixon, and were both active in the Dixon Senior Citizens Center, where they truly enjoyed being with friends and family. She was a very meticulous person in all areas of her life, a devoted housewife and homemaker, and a diligent individual in providing for the needs of those around her. In later years, after Cy's passing, Mrs. Stewart moved back to California to be near her son and his family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Stewart include: One son, four grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, nephews, nieces with greats as well; and other relatives and friends.
Other family members preceding Mrs. Stewart in death include: Her daughter, Janet Kay (Morris) Sargeant, on April 12, 1984; her father, John, on August 23, 1970; her mother, Neppie, May 10, 1964; her siblings, Jewel Bryant in 1995, Benjamin Brice Dodds on January 15, 1987, Lenna Mae Brown in 2015, Jesse Leonard Dodds on February 24, 2002, Mildred Louise Hayes on February 19, 2017, Harold Louis Dodds in 2016, and Marilyn Rowden on May 31, 2007.
Graveside Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Ethel Stewart at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, September 28, 2019, in the Dixon Cemetery, West Chestnut Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459, with the Rev. Jerry Dooley officiating, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Dixon.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Ethel Stewart are suggested to the First Christian Church, Dixon, with envelopes available at the funeral home or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box EE, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
