Obituary

Farris Arnold Dake, age 90 of Dixon, Missouri, passed away on September 28, 2016, at the Lake Regional Medical Center in Osage Beach. He was born on September 19, 1926, at Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Owen Walter and Mabel Marie (Kelley) Dake. His family traveled by covered wagon to Dixon when he was just two years of age. Farris was united in marriage on January 1, 1947, at Dixon, to the love of his life, Iris Ellen (Alexander) Dake, and they enjoyed 65 years together, until her death on April 12, 2012. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, Owen, on October 11, 1945; his mother, Mabel, on January 16, 1984; two brothers, Kenneth Dake and Cletus Dake; three sisters, Vinita Rollins, Linda Hauck, and Marcella Groves; and one grandson, James.

Farris is survived by three sisters, Reba Whitaker of the state of California, Norma Workman of St. James, Missouri, and Eula Wolf (Bill) of Petersburg, Illinois; three sons, Roger Dake (Lorie) of Spring City, Tennessee, Royce Dake (Cindy) of Ulm, Montana, and Gail Dake of Eldon, Missouri; and one daughter, Phyllis Smith of Columbia, Missouri; blessed with 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Farris contracted polio while serving in the United States Army during World War II and has had to deal with that disability throughout his adult life. He had retired from the Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis, and had been a farmer raising cattle until recent years. Farris had a great love for horses passing his love for horses, hunting especially turkey hunting, and fishing onto his children and grandchildren. He was currently a member of the Dixon Church of Christ and had made a profession of faith early in life and was baptized while attending the Alder Springs Church of Christ. He was a charter member of the Iberia Saddle Club and a member of the Arlington Lodge No. 346 A.F. & A.M. in Dixon.
