Obituary

Fred James Wiegers, of Freeburg, was born January 7, 1937, near Rich Fountain, a son of Steven James and Leona (Dill) Wiegers, and departed this life at 3:45 a.m., Saturday morning, April 18, 2015, in Maries Manor Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Vienna. Mr. Wiegers had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 11 days.

Mr. Wiegers was united in marriage on October 6, 1962, at Freeburg, to Mary Margaret Welschmeyer, and to this union, three children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on December 30, 2005; and his parents.

He was a faithful member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, and was a United States Army Veteran. Prior to retirement Mr. Wiegers was employed in the construction industry, was a mechanic, a truck driver as well as working at the MFA Fertilizer Plant in Freeburg.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Wiegers include: Two sons, James Wiegers and John Wiegers, both of Freeburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Janelle and Carl Baclesse, Linn; one brother, Robert "Bob" Wiegers, Rich Fountain; three grandchildren, Alora Gentges and husband, Logan, Kyra Wiegers, and Kolten Wiegers; one great-granddaughter, Livia Gentges; and other relatives and friends.

A Payer Service was held for Mr. Wiegers at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 19, 2015, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with Rev. Nicholas J. Reid leading.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Wiegers at 10:00 A.M., Monday morning, April 20, 2015, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with Rev. Nicholas J. Reid celebrating.

Interment was in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mr. Wiegers were Keith Klebba, Kurt Klebba, Larry Groner, Gary Welschmeyer, Adam Robinson, and Leon Lauberth.

Masses or memorial contributions to the Holy Family School, Freeburg, with envelopes available at the Holy Family Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
