Obituary

George Edward Davis Jr., age 87, of Vienna, was born June 20, 1936, a son of George E. Davis and Ethel Mae (Dugmanics) Davis, and passed from this life Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

On February 8, 1958, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, George entered active federal service in the United States Army serving six months active duty and continued to serve in the United States Army Reserve until December 6, 1964, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, at the rank of Specialist 5th Class (SP5).  A man of excellent character, George's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country.

He was united in marriage November 22, 1995, at the United Methodist Church, Vienna, to Victoria "Vicki" LaMure.

Following his active-duty service in the United States Army, George continued his working career working at Smith Quarry's, Vichy, as a limestone miner, a Deputy Sheriff for Maries County, all while tending to his family farm outside of Vienna.

George had a lifelong passion for farming, that was passed down from his father and mother. He kept this passion alive working on his family's farm with his sons, who have also passed this love of farming to their children. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, trapping, or spending time with his family.

Those left to mourn the passing of George include: his wife of 27 years, Vicki Davis of the home near Vienna; three sons, Lynn Davis (Denise) of Vienna, Kenneth Davis (Jane) of Vichy, and Richard Davis (Paula) of Rolla; two stepsons, Lee Harmon (Kristy) of Harrisonville, and Larry Harmon (Dagmar) of the state of Texas; ten grandchildren, Nathan Hucker (Cassie) of Wentzville, Adam Davis (Leota) of Rolla, Brent Davis (Cassie Keller) of Warrensburg, Nick Davis of Bonnots Mill, Cierra Kilmer (Kenny) of Vienna, Oscar Collier (Nick) of Cuba, Hope Ash (Eric) of Vienna, Julianna Davis of Vienna, Katelyn Tung (Gary) of Rolla, and Jenna Davis of Springfield; five step grandchildren, Parker and Jackson Harmon of Harrisonville, Mariah, Christopher, and Jonah Harmon of the state of Texas; fourteen greatgrandchildren, Jackson, Colten, Easton, Phoenix, Lainey, Liam, Zoe, Weldon, Keegan, Emma, Travis, Remington, Raven, and Mille; three sisters, Marilyn Seidel of Huntsville, Shirley Peterman of Rolla, and Betty Davis of Vichy; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, George on February 16, 1989; his mother Ethel on March 16, 2004; and two brothers-in-law, Floyd Seidel on December 10, 2017, and James (Jim) Peterman on January 26, 2016.

Visitation for George E. Davis Jr. will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2023, and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2023, all in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home Chapel, 406 South Main Street, Vienna, MO 65582, with funeral service following at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel, with Larry Davis officiating.

Interment with full military honors will be beside his parents in Lower Davis Cemetery, near Vichy, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Pallbearers for George E. Davis Jr. will be Lynn Davis, Kenneth Davis, Richard Davis, Nick Davis, Adam Davis, and Brent Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Cierra Kilmer, Julianna Davis, Hope Ash, Phoenix Davis, Lainey Davis, Liam Davis, Zoe Hawk, Weldon Kilmer, Remington Ash, Raven Ash, Millie Tung, Oscar Davis-Collier, Keegan Collier, Emma Collier, and Travis Collier.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. George E. Davis Jr. are suggested by his family to the Lower Davis Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home the day of service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, MO 65582.
