Gerald David "Jerry" Tillman, of Warsaw, formerly of Freeburg, was born on July 25, 1946, at Freeburg, the son of Joseph Alphonse and Joan Marie (Risse) Tillman, and departed this life at 4:10 p.m., on Thursday, September 14, 2017, in the Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles, Missouri. He had attained the age of 71 years, 1 month, and 19 days.
On January 13, 1966, at St. Louis, Jerry entered into active federal service in the United States Air Force and served until January 12, 1970, when he was honorably discharged at Norton Air Force Base, California, at the rank of Sergeant. During his military training, he completed the Aircraft Maintenance Technician Course, the Jet Engine Maintenance Courses 1 and 2, and his specialty being an Aircraft Mechanic while serving in the Vietnam War and was awarded and entitled to wear the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Conflict Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Decoration, and the Air Force Combat Citation Medal. A man of excellent character, Jerry's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to our country during the Vietnam War.
During his working life, Jerry was employed by General Motors Corporation in Kansas City for over thirty years before moving to Truman Lake for his retirement. He especially enjoyed his hobbies which included fishing and talking about old cars.
Those left to mourn the passing of Jerry include: His wife, Shirley Campbell-Tillman, of the home in Warsaw; his three children, Jeremy Tillman and wife, Melanie, of Houston, Texas, Scott Tillman of St. Charles, and Heather Tillman of St. Charles; his step-son, Daniel Campbell, of North Kansas City, Missouri; his sisters, Carol Kelsick of Jefferson City, and Dorothy Maasen of Columbia; his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, on November 13, 1955; his mother, Joan, on April 16, 2003; and one step-son, David Campbell, on September 6, 2015.
