Gerard Joseph Wieberg, age 83, passed peacefully August 27, 2024, at Heisinger Bluffs, Jefferson City. He was born near Freeburg, Missouri, on December 8, 1940, to George and Gertrude (Schwartze) Wieberg.
He attended the Renneke Country School and graduated from Vienna High School in 1958.
On October 9, 1962, at St. Louis, Missouri, Gerard entered active federal service in the United States Army and served until September 19, 1964, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Hamilton, New York, at the rank of Technical Sergeant (SP4 E-4 (T)). He served as a radio operator in Germany during the Vietnam War. A man of excellent character, Gerard's Honorable Discharge is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country.
After returning from his military service, he worked for the Missouri Highway Department from 1964 until 1966. Gerard was then a full-time farmer on the family farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, playing cards with friends, and taking long walks on the farm.
Gerard was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg as well as a member of many organizations including: the Msgr. Gerold Kaiser Council #9700 of the Knights of Columbus serving as a Grand Knight and was a 3rd Degree Knight; the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial Post 317; the MFA Board; Water District Board; and the Fire Department Board.
Those left to mourn the passing of Gerard include: his siblings, Alvina Collins, St. Peters, Fred Wieberg and wife, Phyllis, Freeburg, and Felix Wieberg and wife Laura, Holts Summit; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Wieberg, Wardsville, and Mildred "Millie" Wieberg, Freeburg; one brother-in-law, Bob Luebbert, Jefferson City; seventeen nephews and nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
Gerard was preceded in death by his father, George on January 2, 1972; his mother, Gertrude on January 27, 1994; two brothers, Virgil Wieberg on October 22, 2017, and Arnold Wieberg on November 6, 2023; one sister, Marceline Faulkner on January 8, 2018; one nephew, Chris Wieberg on December 31, 2018; and two brothers-in-law, Warren James "Jim" Collins on February 17, 1995, and Maynard Faulkner on June 10, 2000.
A Rosary prayer service for Mr. Gerard Wieberg will be held at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024, followed by a visitation from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with his Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m., all in the Holy Family Catholic Church, 104 Oliver Street, Freeburg, MO 65035, with Father William Debo as celebrant, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
Interment with full military honors for Mr. Gerard Wieberg will be held in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Freeburg. Pallbearers for Gerard will be Bill Luebbert, Matt Collins, Dennis Wieberg, Stephen Wieberg, Tim Wieberg, and Arnold Wieberg Jr. Honorary pallbearers for Gerard will be Henry Luebbert, Beth Luebbert, and Lacey Heidbrink.
In Lieu of flowers the family of Gerard suggest donations be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or School with envelopes available at the church the day of his service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, MO 65582.
