Obituary

Grover L. Johnson, Cattle Farmer, Banker, Business and Family man, a mentor to many and a friend to all, died on November 15, 2023, at his home near Dixon, Missouri, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Born on October 5, 1936, in Gainesville, Missouri, a son of Tony "Marvin" Johnson and Maxine (Grisham) Johnson.

Grover was a true "tradesman" from beginning to the end and would never pass up a great deal. He was happiest on his lawnmower, brush-hogging, checking cattle, watching Cardinal Baseball, and Bulldog Basketball, especially when his grandchildren were playing.

He was a graduate of Gainesville High School, Southwest Missouri State University, and served in the United States Air Force. Grover's banking profession spanned over 40 years, from an Examiner to the President of the Bank of Bourbon, and the former State Bank of Dixon. He was wise beyond his education, people came and sought his advice, benefited from his counsel, his unfailing work ethic, and his leadership to his employees and customers. Grover's contributions to our community speak volumes for his legacy.

Grover accepted the Lord and Savior at a young age and always went to him for guidance throughout his life. The Man, Grover L Johnson, served his country, his community, but most importantly he served the Lord.

Those who remain to treasure his memory are his wife, Michelle Miller Johnson of the home; one daughter, Janet A. Lyons; two sons, Joseph Johnson and Jamie (Dena) Johnson; stepson Jason Simmons; mother of his children, Bonnie Herd Johnson; sixteen grandchildren, Shelby Lyons, Vicky Lyons, Ashley Sherrell, Jonathan Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Cory York, Devon Cardin, Miranda Johnson, Danielle Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Kylee Brown; Kyler Simmons, Heaven McCraken, Marissa Mangner, Kyler Mangner, and Anastasia McGaughey; eleven great grandchildren, Hendrix, Amelia, Kendra, Kane, Kasen, Klay, Taylor, Haley, Annabelle, Phoenix, and Blake; and many other relatives and friends.

Grover was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Maxine; one daughter, Vicky Lee Johnson on April 13, 1985; one son, John Alan Johnson on August 19, 2007; two granddaughters, Jessica Nichole Johnson on September 8, 2023, and Gracie Simmons on May 4,2009; one brother, Eugene "Gene" Johnson on September 9, 2021; one sister, Wilma Watson on September 7, 1982; son-in-law, Scott G. Lyons on March 21, 2023; and stepson, Brian K. Simmons on February 5, 2020.
