Obituary

Harley Holtsclaw, of Dixon, was born on September 17, 1921, at Dixon, a son of Frances Rolla and Dora Viola (Aaron) Holtsclaw, and departed this life on Sunday morning, November 10, 2013. Harley had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 23 days.

Harley was united in marriage on November 6, 1941, at Dixon, to the former Miss Beulah Edith King, and to this union, two children were born. He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Holtsclaw on March 9, 2002; his father on February 23, 1978; his mother on February 26, 1995; two brothers, Kenneth Holtsclaw on April 6, 2006; and Cecil Holtsclaw on February 10, 1985; and one sister, Nadine Holtsclaw in January of 1929 at the age of six years.

Harley was a faithful member of the Pisgah Baptist Church near Dixon where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a diligent worker for the Pisgah Cemetery. He had accepted Jesus Christ as his Personal Saviour and followed his Lord in Baptism early in life. Harley was a well-known brick mason and a lifelong farmer in the Dixon area.

On March 17, 1945, at Jefferson Barracks, he entered into active duty in the United States Army where he served in the 298th Military Police Company and was entitled to wear the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the APT Ribbon, the Victory Ribbon; and the Meritorious Unit Award. Harley had attained the rank of Technician Fifth Grade prior to being discharged at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on June 10, 1946. A man of excellent character, his "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his county during World War II.

Those left to mourn the passing of Harley include: His wife, Beulah Holtsclaw of the home near Dixon; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Virgil Rigsby, Dixon; one daughter-in-law, Phyllis Holtsclaw, Dixon; one sister, Nina Jones, Dixon; five grandchildren, Brian Holtsclaw, Jami Rigsby Jenkins, Jason Rigsby, Brent Holtsclaw, and Jon Rigsby; seven great-grandchildren, Julia Rigsby, Justine Rigsby, Carissa Holtsclaw, Jimmie Holtsclaw, Maci Holtsclaw, Kaleb Yakle, and Kylin Rigsby, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Holtsclaw at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday morning, November 13, 2013, in the Pisgah Baptist Church, Dixon, with Pastor David Hokanson, Burnett Christian Church, Dixon, officiating.

Interment was in the Pisgah Cemetery, Dixon, under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Active pallbearers for Mr. Holtsclaw were Brian Holtsclaw, Jami Rigsby Jenkins, Jason Rigsby, Brent Holtsclaw, Jon Rigsby, and Chuck J. Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers were Julia Rigsby, Justine Rigsby, Carissa Holtsclaw, Jimmie Holtsclaw, Maci Holtsclaw, Kaleb Yakle, and Kylin Rigsby.
