Herbert "Herbie"
B. Struemph
Jul 20, 1945 — Sep 29, 2020
Herbert Bernard "Herbie" Struemph of Koeltztown, son of Joseph Herman and Johanna Marie "Jennie" (Borgmeyer) Struemph, was born July 20, 1945, in Freeburg, Missouri, and departed this life on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Capital Region Medical Center.
One of six children, Herbert was raised on the Struemph family farm located along the Maries River in Freeburg, Mo. After graduating Fatima High School in 1963, he moved to Kansas City. Despite being classmates at Fatima with his future wife, Patricia "Patty" (Schulte) Struemph, it was a chance meeting in Kansas City which allowed their paths to cross again. In one of the many stories that Herbie would share he said that he knew Patty was the one for him when they were attending a party in her KC apartment and she pushed him off the 2 nd story balcony. The two would marry on August 20, 1966.
Herbert served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War in the theater of operations and was honorably discharged in 1968. He and Patty continued raising their family in Koeltztown until 1973 when they opened P&H Tavern in St. Elizabeth, Missouri, which they would run for the next 18 years. He was a Third-Degree Honorary Member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the St. Boniface parish in Koeltztown.
In addition to the US Navy, P&H Tavern, Quaker Window Products and Telecommunication Research Association (TRA), later in life he went on to be an over-the-road truck driver until he finally retired in 2015. His passions included working around his property, growing tomatoes, fishing, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his children, grandchildren, friends and family.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, on November 10, 2000; his son, Jeremy Struemph, on August 17, 2016; his brother, Charles Joseph Struemph, on September 1, 2017; his father, Joseph, on February 20, 1998; and his mother, Johanna, on June 29, 2008.
Those left to mourn the passing of Herbert include his daughter Kimberly Utt and her husband Terry of Wellington, Kansas; daughter Sherri Lynn Hazell and her husband Mike of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter-in-law Briana Struemph of Kansas City; grandchildren Nathan Utt, Kaitlyn Utt, Reagan Hazell, Reese Hazell, and Vera June Struemph; siblings Marilyn Starr and husband Marion of Loose Creek; Joe Struemph and wife Patricia of Pleasant Hill; Victor Struemph and wife Berniece of Freeburg; Janet Struemph of Jefferson City; sister-in-law Brooksie Sue Struemph of Fulton. He was deeply loved and we will hold him in our hearts until we can hold him in Heaven.
