Hersel George "Rocky" Chadbourne, age 71, of Crocker, was born August 16, 1952, at Farmington, Maine, a son of Hersel Willard and Emeline Aretta (Knowlan) Chadbourne, and passed from this life Saturday, November 11, 2023, at his residence in Crocker.
In 1975, at Manchester, New Hampshire, Rocky entered active federal service in the United States Army and honorably served for 20 years, Rocky retired at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, at the rank of Sergeant First Class. While serving in the United States Army, he was a Combat Engineer, Senior Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Squad Leader, Atomic Demolition Munitions Specialist, and an instructor. A man of excellent character, Rocky's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country.
He was united in marriage January 29, 1972, at Pembroke, New Hampshire, to Mary Marion Ruth Welch, and to this union four children were born.
Rocky was baptized later in life and was a member of Christ's Mission Church, St. Robert. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Rocky was an outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and woodwork.
After his retirement from the military, Rocky continued his working career as a manager at Arts and Crafts, Fort Leonard Wood.
Those left to mourn the passing of Rocky include: His wife, Mary, of the home in Crocker; his children, Tracie Chadbourne (Gary) of Leesburg, Virginia, Kami Adair (Joseph) of Bray, Oklahoma, Travis Chadbourne of Crocker, and Justin Chadbourne (Jessica) of St. Robert; fifteen grandchildren, Briana, Kayla, Ilia, Caitlin, Ashleigh, Kale, Ann, Travis Jr., Blake, Emeline, Aaron, Willow, Liam, Abby, and Zeva; three great-grandchildren, Raiden, Adalyn, and Mazie; one brother, Larry Chadbourne (Kim) of Pembroke, New Hampshire; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hersel; his mother, Emeline; one brother, Thomas Chadbourne; and three sisters, Janet Hopps, Brenda Hill, and Terry Cantara.
Visitation for Rocky Chadbourne will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2023, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home Chapel, 105 East Third Street, Dixon, MO 65459, with his funeral service following at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Jeff Brown officiating.
Interment with full military honors will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, November 17, 2023, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 24350 Highway H, Waynesville, Missouri.
Memorial contributions in memory of Hersel "Rocky" Chadbourne are suggested per the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the funeral home on the day of his service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box EE, Dixon, MO 65459.
