Obituary

Hubert Peter Dudenhoeffer, of Freeburg, was born August 9, 1931, at Freeburg, in Osage County, a son of Peter and Margaret (Reinkemeyer) Dudenhoeffer, and departed this life at 3:45 p.m., on Monday, May 5, 2014, in Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City, after suffering an apparent heart attack while driving his truck prior to being taken to the hospital. Mr. Dudenhoeffer had attained the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 26 days.

Mr. Dudenhoeffer was united in marriage on October 4, 1958, at Freeburg, to Mildred Ann Reichel, and to this union, one daughter was born. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his one sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Norbert Frank.

On November 14, 1952, at St. Louis, Mr. Dudenhoeffer entered into active federal service in the Army of the United States and served until September 8, 1954, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Carson, Colorado, at the rank of Sergeant. During his military career, Mr. Dudenhoeffer was assigned to C Battery of the 937 th Field Artillery Battalion and was awarded and entitled to wear the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. A man of excellent character, Hubert's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country during the Korean Conflict.

He was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg, and a member of the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial American Legion Post No. 317, for 59 years, also in Freeburg. Mr. Dudenhoeffer was privileged to be a part of the Honor Flight Program to Washington, D.C., in 2013. During his working life, he had been employed by the Quaker Window Products Company, Freeburg, and had worked there for 48 years retiring in 2000 in the position of dock foreman, as well as being a lifelong farmer.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Dudenhoeffer include: His wife, Mildred Dudenhoeffer, of the home in Freeburg; one daughter, Lois Sandbothe, of Freeburg; one granddaughter, Brittney Plassmeyer and husband, Tyler, of Westphalia; three brothers, Raymond Dudenhoeffer and wife, Viola; and Phillip Dudenhoeffer and wife, Martha, all of Freeburg; and Ignatius "Bud" Dudenhoeffer and wife, Jo, of Jefferson City; and other relatives and friends.

An American Legion Service was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2014, with the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial American Legion Post No. 317 leading, followed by a Prayer Service, with Rev. Nicholas J. Read leading, all in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Dudenhoeffer at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 8, 2014, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with the Rev. Nicholas J. Reid celebrating.

Interment and full military honors were in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers were Leon Lauberth, Sylvester Sandbothe, Carl Sandbothe, Darryl Haller, Brian Berhorst, and Brad Berhorst with Wabash Schulte as honorary pallbearer.

Masses or memorial contributions to the American Heart Association are preferred by the family of Mr. Dudenhoeffer with envelopes available at the Holy Family Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes
