Ian Hunter Gilbert, of Dixon, was born July 4, 1993, at Rolla, a son of Richard William and Evelyn Jeanne (Gilbert) Burton, and departed this life at 3:05 a.m., Sunday, March 2, 2014, in Columbia. He had attained the age of 20 years, 7 months, and 29 days. Ian was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ralph Everett Gilbert. He had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and had followed his Lord in baptism while attending the Victory Hill Baptist Church, near Dixon, where he was a member as well. He was a 2011 graduate of the Dixon R-1 High School where he was a member of the Drama Team. Ian was active in Boys Scouts until about the 10th grade and enjoyed hiking, fishing for catfish, and reading. He had been employed as a cook in restaurant work. Those left to mourn the passing of Ian include: his parents, Richard and Evelyn Burton, Dixon; three brothers, Del Gilbert, Dixon; Drew Burton, Chicago, Illinois; and Warren Sam Shaw, Dixon; two sisters, Tawney Sims, Iberia; and Kelsey Burton, Dixon; his maternal grandmother, Lynn Gilbert, Dixon; one nephew, Thomas Gilbert, Dixon; and other relatives and friends. Visitation for Ian was held from 11 a.m. until 12 Noon, on Saturday, March 8, 2014, in the Victory Hill Baptist Church, Dixon, with a funeral service to follow at 12 Noon with the Rev. Dennis Nichols officiating. Private interment will be in the Vaught Cemetery, near Dixon, with all arrangements under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Memorial contributions are suggested per the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the Victory Hill Baptist Church or the Dixon Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
