Obituary

James Anthony "Jim" Fick, age 86, of Vienna, was born January 31, 1937, at Brinktown, a son of Sylvester Henry and Bertha Ann (Kloeppel) Fick, and passed from this life Thursday, November 23, 2023, in SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital, Jefferson City.

On November 9, 1958, Jim entered active federal service in the United States Army, and attended the U.S. Army Engineer School, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and served in the United States Army Reserve until September 30, 1964, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Leonard Wood, at the rank of Sergeant.  A man of excellent character, Jim's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country.

He was united in marriage September 7, 1957, at Vienna, to Georgena Naomi Laubert, and to this union, five children were born.

Jim was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Vienna, where he was a dedicated member serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Visitation Inter-Parish Catholic School Board member, Visitation Dream Team, and the Visitation Parish Council member. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus Argyle. Jim was an avid sports fan, especially of the St. Louis Cardinals, playing his guitar, listening to country music, and most of all he loved spending time with his beloved family. He loved to decorate for all holidays, especially Christmas, and he will always be remembered as Mr. Santa Claus for having his extraordinary lighted Santa display.

During his working life, Jim worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation District, starting as a maintenance worker, and retiring after 42 years as Area Maintenance Supervisor for District 5 in Vienna. After his retirement, Jim continued working with Stratman Trucking and Fick Distributing.

Those left to mourn the passing of Jim include:  His wife of 66 years, Georgena, of the home in Vienna; his children, Alan Fick (Terri) of Vienna, Kathy Nelson (Rob Cox) of Jefferson City, Glenn Fick (Jill) of Vienna, Kevin Fick of Jefferson City, and Peggy Copeland (Jamey) of Jefferson City; twelve grandchildren, Alana Wood (Nathan) of Houston, Texas, Stan Fick of St. James, Jenny Fick of Osage Beach, Annie Fick of Vienna, Wayne Fick (Naida) of Jefferson City, Elizabeth Fick (fiancé Hayden Payne) of Jefferson City, Sam Fick of Jefferson City, Andrew Nelson (Kaley) of Fort Collins, Colorado, Amber Struemph (fiancé Jacob Kipp) of Kansas City, Joshua Copeland of Jefferson City, John Harker (Alyssa) of Columbia, and Sarah Harker of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Jillian Fick of Columbia, Skylar Fick of Jefferson City, and Brooklynn Fick of Jefferson City; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester; his mother, Bertha; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Fick (Luella), Aloysius "Al" Fick (Leona), and Ralph Fick (Joyce), and a daughter-in-law, Pam Fick.

Visitation for Mr. Jim Fick will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home Chapel, 406 S. Main Street, Vienna, MO 65582, with his Mass of Christian Burial following at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), in the Visitation Catholic Church, 105 N. Main Street, Vienna, MO 65582, with Rev. Basil Tigga as celebrant and Deacon Micheal Brooks assisting.

Interment will be in Visitation Cemetery, Vienna, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Pallbearers for Jim will be Stan Fick, Wayne Fick, Andy Nelson, Josh Copeland, Sam Fick, and Jamey Copeland. Honorary pallbearers will be Alana Wood, Jenny Fick, Amber Struemph, Annie Fick, and Liz Fick.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Jim Fick are suggested by his family for Masses or to Pam's Angels Relay for Life, make checks payable to American Cancer Society Relay for Life – Pam's Angels, with envelopes available at the funeral home on the day of his service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O.
