Obituary

James Virgil "Bud" Rigsby, of Dixon, was born August 11, 1937, in Maries County, a son of Wellon and Evelyn (Hollis) Rigsby, and departed this life at 8:18 a.m., on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, in the Missouri Veterans Home, St. James. Mr. Rigsby had attained the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 4 days.

Mr. Rigsby was united in marriage on April 8, 1967, at Richland, to Janet Kay Holtsclaw, and to this union, three children were born.

On October 7, 1955, at St. Louis, Mr. Rigsby entered into active federal service in the United States Air Force and served until October 11, 1957, when he was honorably discharged at Ent Air Force Base, Colorado, at the rank of Airman Third Class. A man of excellent character, Mr. Rigsby's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country.

He was baptized early in life and had worked in road construction as a paver, later as a pipefitter at Fort Leonard Wood, as well as being a lifelong farmer. Mr. Rigsby enjoyed Missouri and Civil War history, local lore, and family genealogy. He took great pride in maintaining his family farm and discussing cattle with friends and neighbors. Mr. Rigsby loved attending county fairs and never met a horse or mule he didn't like.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Rigsby include: His wife, Janet Rigsby, Dixon; children, Jami Jenkins and husband, Chuck, Rolla; Jason Rigsby and husband, Dan Dial, St. Louis; Jon Rigsby and wife, Alissa, Waynesville; siblings, Dwight Rigsby, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Jessie Hufford and husband, Howard, and Lois Rigsby, all of Springfield; five grandchildren, Julia Rigsby, Justine Meier and husband, Cole, Emma Cornelison, Ella Cornelison, and Everly Rigsby; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wellon, on August 26, 1948; and his mother, Evelyn, on October 1, 1974.

Visitation for Mr. Rigsby will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 18, 2020, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., all in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 East Third Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459, with Rev. Louis Dunlap, Pisgah Baptist Church, Dixon, officiating.

Interment will be in the Powers Family Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Dixon.
