Obituary

James Ulysses Pendleton, age 94, of St. James, formerly of Belle, was born on December 28, 1931, at Meta, a son of Ulysses and Nellie (West) Pendleton and passed from this life on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in the Phelps Health, Rolla.

Mr. Pendleton was united in marriage on July 3, 1954, at Dixon to Miss Erma Jean Backues and to this union, two sons were born.

Mr. Pendleton was baptized early in life and at the time of his passing was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ in Belle. He was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Pendleton worked for Brown Shoe Company in Owensville for a total of twenty-three years, for the Belle MFA for two years and then was employed with the Missouri Department of Corrections, retiring on December 31, 1992, after 15 years. He was a lifetime member of the Owensville VFW Post Number 6133.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Pendleton include: his two sons and daughter-in-law, James E. and Joan Pendleton, Hallsville and Dennis Lee Pendleton, Belle; one granddaughter, Lee Anne Pendleton, St. Louis; one brother, John D. Pendleton, state of Texas; one sister, Naomi I. Jones, Owensville; and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Pendleton was preceded in death by his wife, Erma on September 14, 2021; his father, Ulysses on August 24, 1960; his mother, Nellie on March 28, 1997; and one brother, Tommy Lee Pendleton on November 2, 2004.

Visitation will be held for Mr. Pendleton on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of his service at 11 a.m., all in the Liberty Church of Christ, 35010 Maries Road 413, Belle, Missouri, with Randy Carr, Dixon Church of Christ officiating.

Interment will follow Mr. Pendleton's funeral service under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, in the Liberty Cemetery, Belle. Pallbearers for Mr. Pendleton will be Larry Walters, Lyle Schultz, Bryan Pendleton, Craig Jones, Kent Walters and Gary Ridenhour.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family in Memory of Mr. James U. Pendleton to the Liberty Church of Christ, Belle with envelopes available at the church the day of his service or in Care of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, MO  65582.
