James Frederick Reynard, age 88, of Vienna, was born July 9, 1933, at Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Willis James and Marguerite (Wheeler) Reynard, and suddenly passed from this life Saturday, January 22, 2022, while visiting relatives in Clark, Mo.
On April 21, 1952, at St. Louis, Jim entered active federal service in the United States Navy and served until April 3, 1956, when he was honorably discharged at Norfolk, Virginia, at the rank of Seaman (SN E-3). During his naval career, Jim served on board the USS Des Moines and was awarded and entitled to wear the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. A man of excellent character, Mr. Reynard's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of selfless and faithful service to his country.
He was united in marriage May 30, 1975, at Rolla, to Mary Catherine "Cathy" (Humphrey) Reynard, who survives at their home in Vienna.
Jim was a member of First Baptist Church, Vienna, and was active in various areas of church ministry. During his working life, he was employed by the University of Missouri, Columbia, in the operation of their Power Plant for twenty-eight years and retiring in September of 1992. Following his retirement, Jim and Cathy enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and wintering in Florida.
In addition to his wife, Cathy, of almost forty-seven years, Mr. Reynard is also survived by two step-sons as if they were his own, Eugene Rowden (Loetta Ireland) of Vienna, and Mark Rowden (Tina) of Dixon; four step-grandchildren, Amber Rowden Whitaker of Rolla, Kristine Rowden of Dixon, Megan Rowden Begner (Zach) of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Stephen Rowden (Monet) of Dallas, Texas; four step-great-grandchildren, Ethan Thornton, Emmett Whitaker, Elliott Whitaker, Emery Whitaker, and another anticipated in April of 2022; one sister, Greta Fink, of Phoenix, Arizona; nephews, nieces, with greats and great-greats as well; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willis, in 1978; his mother, Marguerite, in 1981; and his only brother, Richard Reynard.
Visitation for Mr. James Reynard will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 28, 2022, in First Baptist Church, 1004 US Highway 63, Vienna, Mo 65582, with his funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. in the church with Rev. Chris Slocum officiating under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
Immediately following the funeral service in the church sanctuary, the Reynard family extends an invitation to all in attendance to share a meal with them in the Baptist Hall located on the lower level of the church.
Inurnment will be in Madden Ford Cemetery, Iberia, at later date by Birmingham-Martin, Vienna, with Eugene Rowden, Mark Rowden, Stephen Rowden, Ethan Thornton, Donald Wade, and Bryan Wade serving as honorary pallbearers for Mr. Reynard.
