Janice Askins Gaston Griffin, age 68, of Vienna, Missouri, was born March 16, 1953, at Montgomery, Alabama, a daughter of Albert Langdon and Jessie Mae (Roberts) Askins, and passed from this life Tuesday, June 1, 2021, in Maries Manor, Vienna, where she had been a resident since July 21, 2011.
Growing up in Montgomery, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and followed Him in baptism in 1960 while attending the Chisholm Baptist Church where her family worshiped. Janice was a 1971 graduate of the Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, and shortly after her high school career, she joined the US Air Force.
In 1971, Janice entered into active federal service in the United States Air Force and served until 1976, when she was honorably discharged. Following her discharge from active duty, Janice continued in the Air Force by serving in the Georgia National Guard for two years and again was honorably discharged in 1978. Her "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial for eight years of honest and faithful service to her country.
In addition to her military career during her working life, Janice loved drinking Diet Coke, enjoyed watching television, and occasionally listening to music.
Those left to remember the life of Janice include: Two sisters, Suzanne (John) Morrison, Gatesville, Texas; and Cindy Wendling, Austin, Texas; one brother, Edward A. (Miranda) Askins, Granbury, Texas; nephews, Daniel Askins, Jonathan Askins, Collins Morrison, and John Morrison; nieces, Amy Banmiller, and Lori Steinbarger; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert (7-25-1965); her mother, Jessie (8-20-2003); and one brother, William B. Askins (7-26-2018).
The family of Janice will receive relatives and friends at the casket from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to her graveside funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 18, 2021, in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 South Highway 195, Killeen, Texas 76542, with full military honors and interment following, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna, Missouri.
All arrangements are by the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna, Missouri, with cards and correspondence to the family in memory of Janice in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
