Obituary

Shirley Jean Koppel, of Vichy, formerly of St. Louis, was born on March 10, 1932, at St. Louis, a daughter of Louis Francis and Mary Louise (Walker) Govro, and departed this life at 2:10 a.m., on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, in St. Luke's Hospital, Chesterfield. Mrs. Koppel had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 17 days.

Mrs. Koppel was united in marriage on March 11, 1950, at St. Louis, to John Stuart Koppel, and to this union, four children were born. She was preceded by her husband on May 16, 1978; as well as her father, Louis, on October 20, 2007; her mother, Mary Louise, on July 19, 2002; and one brother, Robert Louis Govro, at age 4 years.

Mrs. Koppel was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Fenton, and in addition to her church work, activities she especially enjoyed included reading and traveling. During her working life, Mrs. Koppel was a devoted housewife, a loving homemaker, and a diligent person in providing for the needs of her family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Koppel include: Her children, Connie and Steve Brown of Vichy, Gale and David Loveland of Arnold, John and Robyn Koppel of O'Fallon, and Robert A. Koppel of Vichy; her grandchildren, Brandon and Erin Brown, and Jeremy and Mandy Brown, all of Conroe, Texas, Matthew and Tabitha Brown of Boonville, Sabrina Dedert of Arnold, Kimberly Schmied of Manchester, and Timothy Koppel, Christian Koppel, and Noah Koppel, all of O'Fallon; her great-grandchildren, Morgan, Sophia, Nathaniel, Zachary, and Monica; brothers, Rick and Teresa Govro of Festus, and Richard and Jo Moore of St. Genevieve; her sister, Sheila and Fred Boatman of Houston, Texas; and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Koppel's family will gather at a later occasion to remember and celebrate her life.

Honorary pallbearers for Mrs. Koppel were her grandchildren: Brandon Brown, Jeremy Brown, Matthew Brown, Sabrina Dedert, Kimberly Schmied, Timothy Koppel, Christian Koppel and Noah Koppel and her great-grandchildren: Morgan Schmied, Sophia Dedert, Nathaniel Brown, Zachary Brown and Monica Brown.

The family is being served by the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.
