Jeanne Myrtle Martin, of Washington, Michigan, was born on May 1, 1929, at Warren, Michigan, a daughter of Ora and Hazel (Justice) Weeks, and departed this life on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in the William Beaumont Hospital, Troy, Michigan. Mrs. Martin had attained the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 29 days.
Mrs. Martin was united in marriage on January 15, 1949, to Morris Chesley Martin, and to this union, three children were born. Together they raised their family in Utica, Michigan, then moved to Romeo/Washington, Michigan, in 1976. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 7, 2010; her parents; five brothers, Ora, Raymond, Glen, Howard, and Kenneth; two sisters, Evelyn and Erma; brothers and sisters-in-law, Florence Roberts (Glennon), Emma Faye Ramsey (Arthur), Marilyn Martin, and Leon Goode.
Jeanne's strong faith led her to a lifetime of service at her church, Stoney Creek Community Church, Washington Township, Michigan. She was happy to serve "behind the scenes", working throughout the years in various areas such as teaching Sunday school, and serving on the local board, the greeting team, the missions team, the kitchen crew, as an offering teller, and in the nursery. Jeanne had such fun with her many dear friends from the Blest Years Fellowship and Martha's Circle. She had a heart for Global Outreach and was burdened for those who do not know Jesus as Savior. The highlight of her year was going to the Hephzibah Gatherings each April in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Gifted at entertaining, Jeanne was a good cook and enjoyed having guests over for a meal or cooking meals for those in need. With a quick wit and keen sense of humor, she usually had a joke, a silly poem, or twisted words around to make others laugh.
During her working life, Jeanne, had been employed by the National Bank of Detroit (now Chase Bank) where she excelled as a teller, a general teller, and working in management for over thirty years prior to her retirement in 1996. She was also a devoted housewife, homemaker, and always diligent in providing for the needs of her family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Martin include: one son, M. Kenneth "Ken" Martin (Faye), Shelby Township, Michigan; two daughters, Marcia J. Hinterman (Chris), and Connie M. Yonka (Don), all of Traverse City, Michigan; six grandchildren, Kristen Jones (Brett), Kyle Hinterman (Hope), Aaron Yonka (Elizabeth), Kent Hinterman (Jill), Dana Starr (Ryan), and Aubrey Yonka; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Janice Paling (Chuck); several brothers and sisters-in-law including Phillip Martin (Norene), Washington, Michigan, Jerry Martin (Kay), Shorewood, Minnesota, and Deloris Goode, and Mary Sue Vinson (George), all of Rolla; nephews; nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Martin at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, August 2, 2013, in the Stoney Creek Community Church, Washington Township, Michigan, with Pastor Nathan Bills officiating.
Graveside services were held for Mrs. Martin at 11:00 a.m., on Sunday, August 4, 2013, in the Dixon Cemetery with Bro. Chris Hinterman officiating under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
